72-Year-Old Man Drives Tractor Across Country for Wounded Vets
“The tractor brings attention,” and that helps raise money for those in need.
“With a clatter of engine noise, C. Ivan Stoltzfus’ 1948 John Deere Model A ended its approximately 5,500-mile journey across the country in Sarasota, Fla. on Saturday. The 72-year-old traveled for six months semi-cross country, from Maryland to Montana and back to Florida, to raise money and awareness for wounded warriors.”
“‘Any parking lot I pull in, gas station I pull in, a number of veterans, policemen even come and just say, 'Thank you for what you’re doing’,‘ said Stoltzfus.”
“Journeying on mainly back roads and avoiding highways, Stoltzfus and his tractor crossed the United States at a steady 10-miles-per-hour. A camper, pulled by the tractor, advertised the trip’s organizer, Operation Second Chance, along with Stoltzfus’ specific mission, ‘Across America for Wounded Heroes.’”
