Pandemic or Panic-demic?
Many leftists have one objection: Blaming Trump to defeat him in November.
It seems amazing to me in this age of technology that it’s so hard to find facts about the COVID-19 crisis. Let me state clearly, I’m NOT a medical person, even though I did stay at a Holiday Inn Express recently. I know the virus is deadly and needs to be taken seriously, especially if you are older and have preexisting medical/health issues.
There were medical situations when Barack Obama was president. I don’t remember talk about shutting down the entire country to keep everyone safe. At that time, the economy was reeling and we were experiencing a recession. Sending everyone home was unthinkable.
Bird flu, swine flu, SARS — none of these shut the country down. They are deadly and we need to be aware of them. But as we have stated before, the flu is also fatal to the elderly and those with serious medical conditions. Remember, in 2018 about 80,000 died during the regular flu season.
So, we all agree that COVID-19 is serious. Facts would be helpful. Yet when we listen to the “experts,” we don’t always get clarity. Many people, including Dr. Anthony Fauci, have given mixed signals. Initially, he said the virus would not impact us; now we need to shelter for…?
Nancy Pelosi, New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio, and others told us not to worry. Go eat Chinese, you’ll be fine. Go to Mardi Gras, it’s okay. When things go wrong, the default position is … blame Trump. Please understand: I’m not saying Trump did everything right. There are no perfect people, so my expectations of him or anyone are reasonable. But as a “senior citizen,” this has never happened before in my lifetime.
So what happened? Did we overreact? The experts predicted “Armageddon,” millions dying, then hundreds of thousands, now thousands of deaths. Could they have been wrong? No, they’re the experts, we’re told. Places where they did NOT take the actions to self-isolate did not have the disasters or even the number of infections predicted. They will tell us their actions saved lives. Maybe so, but at what price?
You cannot eliminate every death from the flu or pneumonia, but we’re supposed to wait until there are no more deaths from COVID-19 before we can go back to work — if you still have a job. That fact never crossed their minds. They still get a regular paycheck, just as Congress does. Don’t worry about us, they say. We’ll be fine!
As an optimist I do have one hope out of all this. The Left and many Democrats seem to be laser focused on only one thing, and it’s not the general welfare of the nation. It’s “How can we blame President Trump for all this so he won’t get reelected?” Every day Democrats and the media (but I repeat myself) blame Trump. Instead of saying, “Okay, mistakes were made; let’s try to fix the country,” it’s continual blame-shifting.
Remember, lefties: We are all home 24/7 listening to your constant rhetoric but not seeing you jumping in and saying, “How can we get the country back on track?” November is not that far off. Your willingness to allow tens of millions of voters to suffer so you can take back power is not going to have the results you expect!
Something to think about?
