Black Rep. Booted From Democrat Party
John DeBerry is a voice of reason, a citizen who loves our country, and a disciple of God's Word.
Rep. John DeBerry Jr. was kicked out of the Tennessee Democratic Party after three decades of public service representing his Memphis district.
Because, as in his remarkable speech on the Tennessee House floor last week demonstrated, it is clear that John DeBerry is a voice of reason, a citizen who loves our country, and a disciple of God’s Word. He was booted because his words and his legislative record no longer comport with the leftist Democrat Party’s hateful socialist narrative.
Former Tennessee GOP executive director Robin Smith, a state legislator and political analyst for The Patriot Post, observes:
John DeBerry is an iconic reflection of faith, family, and freedom in the TN General Assembly. His faith in Jesus Christ is his priority and influences his public policy and personal character. His family is legend with his father’s role as a man of faith teaching his child in the very shadow of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. John is a friend who, despite our partisan labels, is a Brother in Christ who shares the commitment to improve the lives of Tennesseans through freedom, self-reliance, and truth.
The Tennessee Democrats removed John from the primary ballot this year based on his legislative record, which reflected a stance for the life of the unborn as well as finding ways for children to escape failing schools. But, in a day when Democrats embrace big government and condemn minority citizens to be wards of the state instead of free, thriving, and productive lives, no one should be surprised to see this Memphis icon booted by the Demos. Their efforts to disenfranchise John will never eclipse his character and leadership.
Former Tennessee Rep. Chris Clem, a member of The Patriot Post’s National Advisory Committee, notes:
I have known John DeBerry for 20 years, serving with him for many of those years. His integrity and conviction is impressive to watch as he represented a solid Democrat district. Standing for Biblical convictions is incredibly difficult with a (D) after your name. He never wavered.
