Joe Biden’s Anti-Cop Flip-Flop
The president is desperate to separate himself from the stench of his party’s “defund” movement.
Joe Biden and the Democrats have a cop problem, and he’s desperately trying to fix it — even if it means shedding crocodile tears and rewriting history.
The whitewashing began in earnest over the summer, when White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki earned some serious Pinocchios for trying to say that the Republicans, not the Democrats, were the party behind the “Defund the Police” movement. But that was a lie too far, even for the Leftmedia.
Speaking at the 40th Annual National Peace Officers’ Memorial Service on Saturday, Biden warned that the cops need more resources. Of course, during the Long Hot Summer of 2020, while America’s cities burned beneath the onslaught of the George Floyd riots, candidate Joe Biden was noticeably silent — except when he said that cops have “become the enemy” and, when he was asked whether we should “redirect some of the funding” to cops, he said, “Yes, absolutely.”

Only when Biden’s handlers began to realize that the Democrats’ anti-cop position had begun to damage him politically in the polls did they decide to shape-shift and denounce the months-long violence mostly peaceful protests.
As our Thomas Gallatin wrote in late August 2020: “After three months of BLM riots plaguing Democrat-run cities, Biden finally — albeit briefly — stepped out of his basement to issue a short message condemning the violence. And even then, Biden first catered to the bogus narrative of ‘systemic police racism,’ stating, ‘What I saw on that video makes me sick. Once again, a black man, Jacob Blake, has been shot by the police in broad daylight with the whole world watching.’”
Never mind that Jacob Blake resisted arrest. Never mind that he defied a lawful police order and reached for a knife on the floorboard of his car before being shot. None of that fit within the Democrats’ “police brutality” narrative. The same could be said for any number of thugs made into martyrs by Democrats obsessed with skin color.
“Being a cop today is one hell of a lot harder than it’s ever been,” said Biden on Saturday, “and to the families of the fallen, you’ve suffered an enormous loss, but understand your loss is also America’s loss, and your pain is America’s pain.”
One wonders what Democrats like Ilhan Omar and Rashida Tlaib and Cori Bush and Jamaal Bowman think of that statement of support. Or how about Biden’s former boss, Barack Obama, who bears much of the blame for the Left’s war on cops that has made being a cop today “one hell of a lot harder.”
In any case, our nation’s law enforcement officers don’t appear to be falling for it. As The Washington Times reports: “President Biden’s relationship with America’s law enforcement community has gone from bad to worse in the nearly nine months that he has occupied the Oval Office, according to veteran police officers. Rank-and-file cops and unions that broke away from Mr. Biden to endorse President Trump say they are ‘disgusted’ with what they see as a lack of support from the White House.”
“Disgusted” might seem like too strong a word to level toward Joe Biden when it comes to backing the blue — especially since Biden had long been a supporter of law enforcement. But cops don’t tend to forget such things as betrayal, and they remember his silence in the summer of 2020, when his Democrat Party threw them under the BLM bus.
Back then, when they were under siege and needed him most, Scranton Joe was nowhere to be found.
