More illegals released in U.S. in one month than deported last year: A key data point demonstrates that Joe Biden’s border crisis is in fact the result of an intentional plan and not mere incompetent leadership. As the number of illegals crossing the southern border continues at a record pace, the Biden administration has not only resurrected Barack Obama’s catch-and-release policy but has injected it with steroids. Over the last month, the Biden administration has released more illegal aliens into the U.S. interior than it deported all of last year. In the entirety of FY2021, ICE deported just 55,590 illegal aliens. Meanwhile, January saw 62,573 illegals released.
Germany halts construction on Russian pipeline: Following Vladimir Putin’s recognition of two separatist Ukraine regions as autonomous, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz announced the halting of certification needed for the continuing construction of Russia’s Nord Stream 2 pipeline. Scholz explained that recent developments made “the situation fundamentally different,” which “is why we must reevaluate this situation.” Russia’s former president and current head of the National Security Council, Dmitry Medvedev, chided Scholz: “Welcome to a new world where Europeans will soon pay 2,000 euros for a thousand cubic meters of gas!” Russian natural gas accounted for 27% of Germany’s energy supply last year, and reliance on Russian natural gas is expected to increase with Germany’s plan to shut down its last three nuclear plants by the end of the year.
Trump’s Truth Social hits Apple App Store: Late Sunday evening, Donald Trump’s long-awaited social media platform named Truth Social was released on Apple’s App Store and quickly became the number one downloaded application over the past 24 hours. Truth Social immediately hit a technical snag, likely due to high download volume, resulting in a 13-hour partial outage. Trump is now back on social media after being banned by tech giants Twitter and Facebook back in January 2021. It was last November that Trump announced the establishment of his new media company Trump Media & Technology Group, specifically noting his aim was to “give a voice to all.” The Truth Social app for Android is still in development with no word yet on when it’s expected to launch.
Kyle Rittenhouse seeks to hold media to account: On Monday, Kyle Rittenhouse announced his plan to create the Media Accountability Project, an organization whose aim is to raise money for legal challenges against media organizations that engage in defamation. Rittenhouse, who was widely vilified and misrepresented by many in the mainstream media during his self-defense shooting trial, explained: “The Media Accountability Project is the official fundraising vehicle for holding the worst offenders in our activist media accountable in court. In the long term, I want to provide a platform for independent journalists who are actually committed to the truth, but for right now, accountability is priority No. 1.” In a promotional video, Rittenhouse quotes Malcom X: “The media’s the most powerful entity on earth. They have the power to make the innocent guilty and to make the guilty innocent, and that’s power.”
