No Comic Relief for Biden’s Malaise

Sitting down with Jimmy Kimmel for a few laughs won’t fix the problem that is Joe Biden.

The American people are plagued by high-profile massacres and drastically increased murder rates (and the attempted murder of a Supreme Court justice), skyrocketing prices for everything, a planned immigration crisis, cultural division and upheaval (especially during “Pride Month”), and the consequences of war in Europe. Naturally, Joe Biden, the man with an outsized role in causing all of that malaise, chose this moment to sit down for an interview with a late-night comedian.

Okay, to be fair, plenty of presidents have gone on late-night television to yuk it up with entertainers and put the American people at ease with their own likable personalities. But Biden is a senile and mean old man whose policies have wreaked havoc everywhere, his approval rating is historically bad, and this is his first mainstream media interview in 118 days.

Which makes a crass and mean misogynist like Jimmy Kimmel the perfect fit, come to think of it. Kimmel is like Hunter Biden, only without the crack addiction. His “laptop” is a very public body of work that stretches back decades, and it reveals, as Mark Alexander wrote a few years back, a man “who built his career on the ‘entertaining’ denigration of women.” Well, when he wasn’t wearing blackface anyway.

Long gone are the days of Johnny Carson and Jay Leno, genuinely funny guys who made lighthearted fun of political figures of every stripe. Today’s late-night comedians are cynical men whose idea of humor is bitter and sanctimonious ridicule.

Then again, if you think about it, Biden really did tell some knee-slappers last night:

“We have the fastest growing economy in the world.”

“Look, this is not your father’s Republican Party. This is a MAGA party.”

“What I don’t want to do, and I’m not being facetious, I don’t want to emulate [Donald] Trump’s abuse of the Constitution and constitutional authority.”

“I often get asked, ‘The Republican’s don’t play it square. Why do you play it square?’ If we do the same thing they do, our democracy would literally be in jeopardy. That’s not a joke!”

Whew! Take a moment to recover your breath and ease that stitch in your side before we move on.

At the risk of explaining his first “joke,” first-quarter GDP was down 1.5% and there are growing fears of recession. Not exactly what people have in mind for a “fastest growing economy.” On the MAGA joke, Biden ruined the punchline by forgetting the focus-group-tested “ultra” modifier. Worse, the substance that occasioned his criticism was addressing Kimmel’s demands for more gun control from atop the caskets of children. As for the other two comments, well, that’s just a classic case of projection — Democrats never play it square and they abuse the Constitution every day.

Biden also made comments that are absolutely not a joke in light of the attempt on Justice Brett Kavanaugh’s life this week. Overturning Roe v. Wade would be “ridiculous,” he declared. “I don’t think the country will stand for it.” He added that “it’s gonna cause a mini revolution.”

Trump was impeached for less, even given Democrats’ trumped up charges regarding the so-called “insurrection.” That isn’t to say Biden deserves impeachment for foolish comments on a comedy show, but his remarks reveal an utterly disgraceful contempt for the Rule of Law that should describe no president of these United States. And here we thought he didn’t want to “emulate” his predecessor.

Speaking of disgraceful, Kimmel played his part well. He wanted to appear to “challenge” Biden and not go easy on him, but all the pressure came from the left. “I think you just need to start yelling at people,” Kimmel insisted when Biden explained the limits of his power.

Ultimately, Kimmel ended up doing the same thing Biden and his White House lackeys do — insist that the president is just an unfortunate bystander beset by crummy events. “What a terrible job you have,” Kimmel told him. “I’m glad you’re doing it. But, boy oh boy, does this seem like a bad gig.”

The truth is that Biden is doing a terrible job in an office he started trying to win in 1987. If anything, he’s even less qualified now than he was then. That’s why he’s resorting to public relations help from an unfunny comedian.
