Tuesday: Below the Fold

YouTube reverses on election fraud, Wray’s contempt, Saudis buck Biden again, and more.

Cross-Examination

  • YouTube reverses on election fraud: And just like that, it’s okay to talk about 2020 election fraud on YouTube. The platform quietly announced that it will no longer remove content that says unapproved things about the results of the last presidential election. “In the current environment,” YouTube said in a blog post, “we find that while removing this content does curb some misinformation, it could also have the unintended effect of curtailing political speech.” You don’t say. YouTubers like Anthony Brian Logan eagerly await the removal of strikes over commentary about the election.

  • Wray’s contempt: FBI Director Christopher Wray still refuses to turn over documents implicating Joe Biden in Hunter Biden’s influence-peddling schemes. The House Oversight Committee subpoenaed those documents, and now Republican Chairman James Comer says the committee will convene contempt hearings for the FBI director. That Wray seems so intent on protecting Biden is strange given that he was appointed by Donald Trump. Perhaps the former president senses that because he’s slamming Ron DeSantis for supporting Wray in 2017. DeSantis was a member of the House back then and had no say in Wray’s nomination. Who did have a say? Donald Trump, who nominated him.

  • Saudis buck Biden again: Among the first things Joe Biden did upon taking office was to hamstring American oil production, which led the world under Donald Trump. The result was predictable and maddening: Gas rose from $2.39 a gallon on Inauguration Day to as high as $5.02 a gallon before settling back to $3.55 today. Biden raided the Strategic Petroleum Reserve to help his poll numbers, and he also went hat in hand to the Saudis to beg them to increase production. Not only did the Saudis decline to increase production, but they instead cut production. Now they’re doing it again, announcing this week a reduction of one million barrels per day because Biden never carried through with his threats after the last cut. Weakness matters.

  • Trump lawyers meet with DOJ: Former President Donald Trump took some classified documents with him to his Mar-a-Lago estate in Florida. He probably shouldn’t have done that, though we’d also note these were physical documents at a very secured location — as opposed to sending classified emails over an unsecured server like a certain woman who will never be president. In any case, Joe Biden’s FBI raided Trump’s home and his “Justice” Department is looking into an indictment, all while overlooking Biden’s own classified garage docudrama. Trump’s lawyers met with Justice Department officials Monday, which likely means a decision on whether to pursue charges is imminent. Stay tuned.
