O God Our Help in Ages Past
I have not done much serious writing since college except some technical papers while in the Navy, and the Articles of Incorporation for Philippine Faith Mission which I founded in 1979 after my retirement from the Navy in ‘76 and our subsequent move to the Philippines later that year to continue a small ministry of reaching the lost in the small shops of infamous Olongapo City adjacent to the former Subic Naval Base, Philippines. This was back in the years 1976-1979, after which we had to return to the States due to the health and educational needs of our children, and I handed over the helm of PFM to Joel Alviar, a young Philippine national, who had completely taken over my ministry when I began studies at FEBIAS College of Bible in a suburb of Manila, where I attended from '77 to '78 hoping to be able to stay in the Philippines indefinitely. But God had other plans for us, so we left the same year that PFM was incorporated. Joel Alviar assisted by his wife Rechel, assumed my duties as Director and immediately went forward with one of our original plans to open a children’s home for abused/abandoned/homeless children such as roamed the streets of Olongapo and its environs. The Jireh Children’s Home was founded by Joel and Rechel Alviar in 1979, about six months after our family returned to the States. There are presently only 28 children, all of whom have come via the Philippine Department of Social Services where they will live until high school or college as the case may be. Joel Alviar has led PFM since our departure until today and has done a most remarkable job. Now he is Dr. Joel Alviar! Our last trip to the Philippines was just this past summer: a wonderful trip, and one of the highlights was our being able to attend the awarding of Joel’s honorary Doctor of Divinity degree for the amazing work he and Rechel have been able to accomplish over these past 33 years. We are so honored to be its founders.
Well so much for my background; obviously I am not even remotely close to the machinations of the beltway crowd, but that may be to my favor since I am not too close to lose perspective.
Over the past 77 years that I have lived I have witnessed an amazing assault on the American way of life and its Christian heritage, to the point right now where it is beyond recognition from my childhood days where our soldiers came home from a war as heroes, divorce was disgraceful, families were on a tight budget and went on a pay-as-you-go basis, and God and country were sacred. Abortions were rare and kept quiet. Homosexuality has always been around, but back then it was strongly discouraged. The armed services discharged any homosexuals that became known, and servicemen were warned not to associate with anyone who was or was suspected of being gay.
I was 20 when I first enlisted in the service, and that same year I was introduced to Christ in a servicemen’s center in Spokane, Washington. This was the most stabilizing experience in my life, and paved the way for finding my wife of 50 years, which we celebrated this past December. We have six children of our own and 18 grandchildren!
But it has been my introduction to the Scriptures which has made me more sensitive to what was happening in our country, and which made me increasingly aware that there was a definite malevolent force operating in our society which was decimating all the great values and traditions that have made our country the greatest on earth.
It was Scripture that makes one realize that life is precious and teaches human dignity. It also teaches that God is the giver and sustainer of life; man was never given the right to choose the fate of anyone else; abortion is not any humans’ business, not the mother’s and not the states’. It was not until the religion of evolution replaced the worship of God in this country that abortion suddenly became the mother’s so-called right. Every soul is very important to God, and we do well to honor all of God’s children as He does, and to serve our fellow man as one of life’s most basic and cherished duties, regardless of whatever else we would ever accomplish on this earth. Through the Scriptures I came to understand that only in the false religions of pagan countries do parents sacrifice their own children. How can anyone point the finger at the holocaust perpetrated under Hitler while ignoring the mass slaughter of our own children through abortion?
Appalling also is the legitimization of homosexuality by our own government, and then teaching its despicable practices to our school children from the earliest grades. So it is no wonder I have been keenly anxious to keep abreast of the information pertaining to the person and background of young Mister B.O. who seemed to emerge out of nowhere with intentions of running out country. I have now read Brad O'Leary’s Audacity of Deceit, and Michelle Malkin’s Culture of Corruption (which I still need to finish), the DVD “Agenda: Grinding America Down”, and attended the showing of the film 2016 – and Mr. B.O. scares me to death, especially because the parallels from Scripture are so poignant! When Israel started doing the same things we are doing now He brought judgment on them and they became a people without a country from 1 AD until 1948. When any people turn their back on God and believe an ungodly dogma such as evolution, anything can happen, and it is happening right before our eyes in this land that used to be called the “home of the free and the brave”!
Gentlemen, we are in for some very scary days ahead, especially if B.O. is not impeached very soon. He scoffs at our Constitution and makes his own rules. How does he get away with appointing all these czars without their being approved by Congress, which is against the law I believe! He is a mess and both Republican and Democrat congressmen are afraid to stand up to him and require a full senate hearing on his anti-American activities. God help us to stand up and act like men!
God bless you all, I admire each of you who have contributed to making Patriot Post the most relevant source of political news honoring to the American people and our godly forbears. You will all be in my prayers in the coming days.
