Rand Paul CNN Pro-Life Fiasco

When politicians must explain or clarify remarks, it is perhaps closer to the truth that the original answer was in fact correct but politically flawed. Senator Rand Paul said he believes life begins at conception, and has a 100% pro-life rating in Congress, but in an interview with CNN, Rand made a statement that there were “thousands” of exceptions to a potential ban on abortion.

And so it is with “pro-life” Senator Rand Paul who had to offer an uncomfortable explanation of his CNN remarks describing “thousands” of exceptions to potential bans of abortion. Rand Paul added gasoline to the fire remarking that Americans are not ready to ban abortions and does not think Americans are ready to “change any laws.” The genie is out of the broken bottle as one more perennial wannabe president bites the dust.

A spokesperson defended Senator Paul saying “He believes life begins at conception… He is pro-life. That’s why he introduced the Life at Conception Act. That’s why he spoke at the March for Life.” Paul’s answer sounded hollow and remarkably similar to pro-choice rhetoric claiming abortion should always be a private matter between a woman and her doctor, but the explanation offered was that the Senator “was speaking medically.” So what other way is there besides medically and morally?

Not satisfied, Rand went on, “We don’t yet have a culture that fully supports life.” After the absurdity of the CNN interview and related flip-flop cover-ups, Senator Paul clarified that he is 100% pro-life on abortion (except some of the time when any of his thousands of exceptions might apply).

As far as exceptions are concerned, Paul’s spokesperson explained, “Paul meant that a singular exception to save the life of the mother would likely cover thousands of individual cases, for example, ectopic pregnancies or others that directly threaten the mother’s life.”

The explanations reached far and wide, stating that the Rand Paul’s Life at Conception Act was talking about emergency contraception pills, which may cause very early abortions, but since they contain the exact same drugs used in standard birth control pills, the senator believes they will be nearly impossible to ban.

Senator Paul has always said it is not practically possible to legislate things like the morning after pill or other emergency contraception; it simply is not possible to do so. The law will likely never be able to reach that…You can legislate abortifacients like RU-486, but you can’t legislatively ban artificial estrogen and progesterone.“

With evil there is always one more thing, excuse, exception, spin, or convoluted logic, as its insatiable appetite is not satisfied until the evil consumes the entirety of anything or anyone good or holy in its satanic war against the Creator. There is no validity to the cliché, "To go along to get along,” that accepts the apparent wrong so as not to make waves, but is in fact a recipe for disaster that is not so slowly, but surely squeezing the moral lifeblood out of America.

Senator Rand Paul claims validity of his pro-life façade, but will have to avoid this kind of comment in the future that lend questions about how sincere he is on the topic. That is especially the case as he already entered the 2016 race for the Republican nomination. In 2012, pro-life candidates frequently attacked each other and used specious arguments to make it appear other candidates were not pro-life or not as pro-life. Paul opened himself up to criticism with CNN comments making it appear he is not consistently pro-life. The proof is in the pudding.
