Ethanol the Lesser Evil?

Leave it to government to get something absolutely, basically, and morally wrong as evidenced by disastrous ObamaCare that even Congress turns its nose up at and wants no part of themselves.

And so it is with ethanol that is humongous welfare for growers and agribusiness Archer Daniels Midland (ADM) and a host of other corporations as opposed to family farmers that continue in the American tradition.

Food for fuel is the worst insult to nature and all the people at home and abroad. Many are still starving, underfed, and in poor health because of food shortages and costs, yet Ethanol K-Street lobbyists buy off Congress while they line their pockets from gains from ethanol that has been proven to increase the cost of fuel while simultaneously reducing efficiency of gas-driven vehicles, and causing costly maintenance problems.

Lobbyists depend upon tried and trusted incumbents in Congress to sell their malicious wares, adding one more reason for term limits. As Mark Twain put it, “Vote the rascals out.”

The Maslar political philosophy is more extreme: “If they choose, on their own, to run for office, elect them for two terms at a time, and let them spend the first term in jail, because they must’ve done something.”

Congress does not want its own legislation to apply to them, particularly as to Social Security and now ObamaCare – the same ObamaCare House Speaker Pelosi said, “We must pass … so we can see what’s in it.” Such drivel.

Congress must be forced into compliance of its own laws, and should be forced into the same two-term limit that applies to the president. But Congress, being the devil that it is, will find a way around it. Rumors abound that President Obama, who has already channeled President Franklin Delano Roosevelt (FDR), will be using FDR’s four Presidential (precedential) terms as a precedent for a possible Obama third-term grab.

Meanwhile there are never-ending energy problems, and while it is well and good to increase gas mileage on vehicles, ethanol does the opposite and at higher cost, reducing fuel economy while subjecting vehicles to higher maintenance costs. Food is used for fuel to produce ethanol that drives up food prices worldwide, causing shortages, malnutrition, sickness, and disease. If Ethanol is not criminal, it is worse, as it is a sin against nature and humanity.

Ethanol and ObamaCare are only two of several problems mishandled by Congress, such as interest rates on college loans trending upward that Congress just had to fix. The student loan program and President Obama touting college for everyone is ridiculous if after college there are not jobs, let alone good-paying jobs, to support the debt.

College loans help colleges become bloated behemoths with their own incumbents and tenure, which like government need ever-increasing monies to support gluttonous growth. It is almost better to use the borrowed money to go into business or buy a going-concern business to earn a good living, while furthering education part-time and online, than go into debt for meaningless and incomplete college education.

Topping the abuses off is the college graduation rate that hovers around 50%. The debt incurred to not complete college borders on foolish. The Bible sees it that way as well, describing someone that starts construction without the wherewithal to finish the job, exposing the builder to ridicule for starting what could not be finished. The government college loan program is another failure of government thinking that individualism is inadequate, and that government alone can lift people out of poverty, which itself is a very abused word in this godless culture.

“Striving for the greater good is superior to settling for the lesser evil” is a Maslar axiom. Evil is evil regardless of degree and politically Americans are always asked to choose the lesser evil, and that is the problem. A rotting apple may still be partly edible, but not for long as the rot permeates the rest of the apple, and eventually it’s not of any use except for fertilizer. Lesser evil tends to get worse and ruin whatever it touches.

A corollary to the lesser evil theory is the “Change” theory that grossly misses the point that not all change is good or for the better; that change can be from good to bad or bad to worse. Or as Keith Olbermann is famous for his “Worst Person in the World” segment in which Olbermann features nominees for the dubious honor of being the “Worse,” “Worser,” and “Worst.”

Gov. Chris Christie says, “Look at what I’ve done FOR New Jersey,” but it is, “Look at what you’ve done TO New Jersey;” guaranteeing a Democrat Senator in the special election that was totally unnecessary and expensive for bankrupt New Jersey. Christie has hobnobbed and worshiped at the feet of Obama since the Hurricane Sandy. Now Christie hands Obama a critical Senate seat as NJ is Democrat and Newark Mayor Cory Booker is a shoo-in in the upcoming October election. Christie has shown his true colors and who he really is, but he is certainly NOT a Conservative Republican. Christie cost the state millions of dollars plus valuable time lost for the unnecessary election while enabling continuing misuse of power by President Obama who defies the Constitution, Congress, the Supreme Court, and the people.

Other Republicans are contributing to the demise of the Republican Party with contradictory stands on civil wars in Syria and civil strife cranking up in Egypt, not to mention the decades-old problem of illegal immigration absent protection of the four-state Mexican border.

Republican National Committee Chairman Reince Priebus led the GOP to defeat in the 2012 presidential election and now he is in position to accomplish losses in the 2014 mid-term congressional elections. Priebus shows duplicity, guaranteeing that he will “walk the walk” right over the end of the gangplank into the forbidding dark waters of defeat.

Former senator and presidential candidate Rick Santorum warned fellow Republicans not to shy away from conservative social stances of government-funded abortion and gay marriage, nor should they, but there must be an emphasis on JOBS, starting with unblocking Obama’s Keystone XL Pipeline from Canada to Texas and other areas for refinement. Social issues are key for true Conservatives, unlike many Republicans. But if Republicans switch to Liberal views on social issues as Priebus advocates; if Republicans become Democrats in order to win, the fabled GOP is dead, never to be revived again.

GOP losers pick losers to lead them, guaranteeing that Democrats will gain in 2014 and win the presidency again in 2016, AGAINST ALL ODDS, merely by changing one word, from “Shall” to “May.” At the 2012 Republican convention in Tampa, nominee Mitt Romney’s team pushed through a rules change wherein the old language specified “Shall” for allocation of delegates proportionally but changed it to read that delegates “May” be allocated proportionally. “Shall” is for real, and “May” is whatever. That simple word change gives the party’‘ eventual nominee the ability to choose alternatives to convention delegates who have been allocated by state voters to other candidates.

The distinction between “Shall” or “May” is restriction versus anything goes. It is the same type question that President Clinton answered with, “It depends on what the definition of 'is’ is.” Small wonder that the state of government is totally out of control, as their duplicitous wording allows them to do any dastardly deed that suits them at any given moment.

The identical situation occurs involving the administration of ObamaCare, wherein rules and regulations are not in the initial 1,500 some unreadable pages, but buried deep within the 10,000 some pages of rules and regulations written by unelected administrators headed by one devious unaccountable HHS Secretary Kathleen Sebelius.

Now that Congress is on a month-long recess, the question is who is in the back-rooms at the store working with K-Street lobbyists who are feverishly writing the next fiascos. Out of thin air, new bills constraining, or rather, enabling illegal immigration, the gun issue that seeks to restrain the Second Amendment Right to bear arms, while unidentified aides shred documents and e-mails covering up Benghazi, NSA spying, and the assorted dirty-dozen scandals plaguing the administration to which President Obama seems to be impervious.

Which goes full circle back to change being, not possible, but probable, going from bad to worse, particularly in Egypt and Libya, in which the anointed one in his wisdom engineered the ouster of bad dictators and replacing them with even worse dictators. These conflagrations along with unending civil war in Syria in which the US might be contributing to both sides, all on the taxpayer dime, do not represent money well-spent.

During these summer months, the should-a been travel weary and jet-lagged Obamas have vacationed around the world on the taxpayer dime but could not see fit to open the White House for traditional mostly volunteer-managed tours by vacationing students and families due to sequestration cuts. But BO, guess whose initials that represents, the White House OFFICIAL dog, gets a plane ride to Martha’s Vineyard to join the Obama family’s unending vacation, all over the roar of incidental racism. If Obama’s name were Bush, would he not have been impeached by now? Is this a great country or what?
