Confidence

“The circulation of confidence is better than the circulation of money.” -James Madison

There seems to be a vacuum of confidence these days.

Real life experience trumps glorious proclamations of our victories here and abroad. Making it up as you go and hoping people will buy in to your rhetoric is no basis for foreign policy. You CAN fool some of the people part of the time, but those who care enough to measure results know that we are not headed in the right direction, not by a long shot.

Men (and women) are fallible. We make mistakes, wrong choices, bad calls.

That is why our only sure system of achieving solid goals is to have a clear-cut policy based on the principles of justice and freedom, pursuing what is right with zeal.

We need leaders with that clear sight.

We need leaders who, instead of counting coup on the other side of the political aisle, look for real-life solutions.

We need leaders who are duty-bound to restore our freedoms, slash through the sludge and red tape, and let Americans once again be dreamers and builders and adventurers.

One of the most salient questions we should ask of our leaders is, “Can I trust you?”

I recently watched the History Channel’s World War series…and the fascinating history of men like Hitler and Churchill. Neville Chamberlain had managed to stay on Hitler’s good side, suing always for peace, until it was nearly too late. Appeasement never works. It only lets tyrant gain momentum. So England was on the razor’s edge when Winston Churchill took the helm and like a bulldog, would not relent with his promise that “We will not flag. We will not falter.”

If we can trust that decisions are based on rock solid principles and will be carried out to the full extent of our strength and wit and ability with acute focus and care, then we can have confidence.

I don’t know about you….but I am praying for a revival of the Churchill grit and gumption!

Jeremiah 17:7, New International Version (NIV): "But blessed is the one who trusts in the Lord, whose confidence is in him.“
