How Did We Get Here?

“Accept responsibility for your life. Know that it is you who will get you where you want to go, no one else.” –Les Brown

How did we get here?

That is a question you should ask yourself on a fairly regular basis.

It is essential to check your progress, where you came from, and where you are today.

That is, of course, assuming that you want to get somewhere in life, that you want to accomplish something.

Recently I had  to find my way in a city that I was not familiar with. I had only been a passenger there, not the driver, and so, even though I had been over the route a few times, I was not clear about all of the landmarks along the way. I hadn’t paid attention as a passenger. I was leaned back and relaxed. Now that I was to be the driver, the landmarks and directions became important to me and I sat up straight and became alert.

My granddaughters are not old enough to drive yet, so their role as passenger is assured for a long time. Nevertheless, the oldest likes to work as navigator and is always willing to read the signs up ahead.

Too many adults don’t mind laying back and letting someone else be the driver in matters that concern and impact where they are going and where they will end up.

Actions have consequences.

Detours from the route can cost us lots of time and miles.

That is why re-tracing the way and looking ahead to the destination is always a good idea. You can re-route to make sure that you get where you want to arrive.

So…how did you get here and where are you headed?

May we, as a nation, be willing to re-trace how we got here and re-route to unifying beliefs in liberty and freedom.

Jeremiah 31:21, The Message (MSG): “Set up signposts to mark your trip home. Get a good map. Study the road conditions. The road out is the road back.”
