The Ethics of Islam: NOT
It’s politically correct to state that the reason why most Muslims fail to speak out against radical Islam is that they are afraid of repercussions that will affect them adversely. This is not the case. The following was reported by Sam Harris:
From the Chairman of Islam Net, Fahad Ullah Qureshi: “When Muslim organizations invite Shaykhs who speak openly about the values of Islam, the Islamophobic western media starts (sic) murdering the character of that organization…. … (A)re these so called ‘radical’ views…endorsed only by these few individuals being invited around the globe, or does the common Muslims (sic) believe in them?”
Islam Net, an organization in Norway, invited 9 speakers (who might otherwise be labeled ‘extremist’) to Peace Conference Scandinavia 2013, the largest International Scandinavian Islamic event ever – about 4000 attended.
The audience, common Sunni Muslims who did not consider themselves radicals or extremists, was in accord with the presentations. Both men and women agreed that segregation is proper. They support stoning or whatever punishment Islam or prophet Muhammad commanded for adultery or any other crime, and that these practices should be implemented globally.
The organizers of this conference believe (with good reason) that “extremist” views are not rare among Muslims, even in the West. And they consider the media’s denial of this fact to be a symptom of… Islamophobia. This would seem to indicate that Islam is indeed radical, as are Muslims in general.
“The serpent of obscurantism has finally begun to devour its own tail. Apparently, it’s a sign of racism to imagine that…Muslims could actually condone the subjugation of women and the murder of apostates. How dare you call us ‘extremists’ when we represent so many? We are not extreme. This is Islam.‘ They have a point, and it’s time for secular liberals and (truly) moderate Muslims to stop denying it.”
This is but another case of political correctness masking a dangerous situation. Apparently Islam is not a 'religion of peace’ after all, as we are led to believe. Apparently Muslims are in general agreement with what we consider ‘radical Islam,’ and that is the reason for the lack of protest.
Islam is not just a religion. It is a way of life, a culture that is in opposition to the rights granted by our Constitution. As such it is not due the deference afforded religions generally. Sharia Law is in direct conflict with our own and, PC notwithstanding, intolerable in our culture.
Don’t just brush this off as Islamophobic because it’s not. For more detail, go to: http://www.samharris.org/blog/item/islam-or-islamophobia2#sthash.nnzuHMuz.dpuf.
