A Sinister Force
We are assured by academia and the media that there is a political spectrum going from communism on the left to fascism on the right. Since every communist state in history, without exception, has been a dictatorship whose rulers committed torture and mass murder on a regular basis, this seems a bit odd. By definition, a spectrum goes from dark to light, up to down, red to violet, etc. The opposite ends are totally different. A “spectrum” going from tyranny at one end to tyranny at the other end, is, by definition, not a spectrum. Let me propose (and here I am paraphrasing my one and only book) a spectrum going from fascism on the left to anarchy on the right. In the center would be the free market economy and free republican government we once enjoyed here in the US. But, you ask, what became of communism? The answer is simple. Communism is fascism. Behind the pious rhetoric, the talk of “from each according to his ability, to each according to his needs,” communism is identical to WWII Italian fascism and German Nazism. The secret police torture cells, the death camps, the militarism, are all the same. Hitler’s death camps were inspired by Stalin’s Gulag, which lives on in North Korea. The Red Army, the Wermacht and SS, and North Korea’s police and military all wore jack boots and all goose-stepped. Communism, not religion, is the real “opiate of the masses,” and the deception was deliberate from the beginning.
Imagine a young man who disdains manual labor, or indeed, any regular, gainful employment. He lives on the margins of society, dependent on odd jobs and charity, and imagines himself to be a great poet or artist. Later in life he joins something called the American Socialist Party, becomes its leader, and is elected President, whereupon he enacts massive welfare and government spending legislation. Can anyone doubt that this is a classic leftist? Even the Bohemian/Beatnik/Hippie lifestyle is typical of many leftists…and conservatives detest the very name “socialism.” Yet I have just described “right wing” Hitler. For another example, imagine a second young man, who, like his father, is a member of the Socialist Party, but who actually believes in revolutionary socialism, which means communism. But he forms his own party, and, elected president, also enacts massive government spending projects. I have just described “right wing” Italian fascist Mussolini.
The differences between the Soviet and the Nazi regimes, for example, are also mainly rhetorical. In the Soviet Union, the state owned all the means of production, all the property. Yet the elites, although they did not technically own property, had the use of it and controlled it, with private country homes and special stores just for them. In Hitler’s Germany people still owned homes and farms, subject to strict government controls and taxes, and private corporations existed, but only at the sufferance of government, with whom they were in partnership…a system almost identical to the crony capitalism we now suffer from in Obama’s America. And do you really own your home if you must pay rent (property taxes) to the government to keep it? Do you own your home if expanded rules of eminent domain allow the government to take it from you and sell it to a private corporation? Do you own your home if the EPA can declare a rain puddle in your yard to be a “wetland”? The very definition of “ownership” is not so clear as we may imagine.
The left is so called because, just prior to the French Revolution, the radicals of the Third Estate chose to sit on the left side of the room where the Estates General met. Was this just by chance, or were they openly making a statement? These radicals, remember, led the revolution that gave the modern world its first truly fascist state, complete with mass murder and an attempt to destroy Christianity and the family and totally remake society…a phenomenon we have seen many times since then. The Latin word for “left” is “sinister,” which also means dangerous and evil, unlucky, and inauspicious. Mystics warn of the destructive “left hand path.” By contrast, a good man is “righteous.” A good deed, or telling the truth, is the “right” thing to do. And the opposite of right is wrong.
Could it be that leftists (including Democrats), or at least their leaders, have consciously chosen evil over good, and are, in a sense, admitting it? It has been said that conservatives have traditionally viewed leftists as misguided, and have often (and vainly) tried to reason with them, but that leftists bitterly hate all conservatives. Their hatred, their dishonesty, and their sheer irrationality are becoming more apparent almost by the day. Perhaps it is time we stopped trying to reason with people impervious to logic. Perhaps it is time we took them at their word, and, since we are their designated enemies, declared war upon them. For as time passes it is becoming ever more obvious that if you strip away leftist rhetoric, their standard pieties, layer by layer, at their heart of darkness nothing remains but a low, petty, spiteful malevolence.
