Donald Trump: Remember That Less Is More

November’s election will not be decided by either side’s guaranteed voters, but by those in the middle whose decision hangs on a knife-edge.

The phrase “less is more” has roots in Ancient Greece and works for so many areas of life. Whether we’re talking about architecture, seasoning or makeup, keeping it simple is usually the way to go.

And Donald Trump could learn a thing or two from this mantra, and remember that more is not, in fact, always more. Take Pennsylvania Gov. Josh Shapiro as an example.

“The highly overrated Jewish Governor of the Great Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, Josh Shapiro, made a really bad and poorly delivered speech talking about freedom and fighting for Comrade Kamala Harris for President, yet she hates Israel and will do nothing but make its journey through the complexities of survival as difficult as possible, hoping in the end that it will fail,” Trump wrote on his Truth Social account following Shapiro’s speech at the Democratic National Convention in Chicago. “Judge only by her actions! Yet Shapiro, for strictly political reasons, refused to acknowledge that I am the best friend that Israel, and the Jewish people, ever had. I have done more for Israel than any President, and frankly, I have done more for Israel than any person, and it’s not even close. Shapiro has done nothing for Israel, and never will. Comrade Kamala Harris, the Radical Left Marxist who stole the nomination from Crooked Joe, will do even less. Israel is in BIG trouble!”

Look, Donald Trump’s social media game is undeniably comedy gold. Why? Because it’s an entirely unfiltered window into his inner psyche. But when it comes to sharing the sprawling collection of half-formed thoughts that make up our inner monologues, we must remember that the role of a politician isn’t to entertain but to inform, convince and rally people behind ideas.

Did Trump live up to this role in this case? Absolutely not.

If you read between the lines, Trump is actually making several important arguments.

First, Gov. Josh Shapiro was cast aside by Kamala Harris despite his popularity in a must-win state because he is Jewish and smart. Kamala Harris (like Joe Biden before her) was afraid of upsetting the wildly vocal pro-Hamas crowd in her own party … otherwise known as Michigan, and was concerned that Shapiro’s intellect and skill as a politician would upstage her (an impossibly low bar). Despite bending over backward to undo his Jewishness in order to ingratiate himself with those who turned green at the prospect of voting for a Jew, Shapiro (and potentially the state of Pennsylvania) was rejected in favor of Tim Walz.

Second, it is true that Joe Biden and Kamala Harris’ policy regarding Israel has been appalling and would be disastrous under Harris’ ongoing rule. In contrast, Donald Trump’s domestic and foreign policy as president was historically good for Israel and for American Jews. Trump may not have done “more for Israel than any person” — Moses probably did more with the whole Exodus thing — but he’s certainly the most pro-Israel president in American history.

And third, it is true that the party of democracy overthrew their official nominee and replaced him with an unelected puppet.

With his platform and voice, Trump had the opportunity to land an accurate and targeted hit on Shapiro’s decision to put politics over his career fight against antisemitism, the undemocratic nature of the Democratic Party regime, and Kamala Harris’ undeniable problem with antisemitism and anti-Israel policy.

But the deadly sharpness of this attack was dulled beyond recognition by mounds of bloviating fluff, ridiculous exaggeration and nonsensical gibberish. And while these posts do well with the base, it’s crucial to remember that November’s election will not be decided by either side’s guaranteed voters, but by those in the middle whose decision hangs on a knife-edge.

These voters care about several factors, but one of the most important is each candidate’s ability to speak with clarity, discipline and accuracy about their opponent’s weaknesses. Only the country’s most diehard Trump fan could argue that posts like these come anywhere close to achieving this goal.
