Why Bernie Goldberg & I Are Phffft
For quite a long time, Bernard Goldberg, Bill O’Reilly’s go-to guy on media matters, carried my articles on his blog. But, recently, he let me know that would no longer be the case. I had been dumped before, most notably by Townhall. But whereas Townhall never told me why, Bernie, who’s a stand-up guy, made his reasons clear. So in case that’s where you were reading me, here is why you no longer will: After paying me a few nice compliments, Bernie wrote: “I just don’t have time to worry about what you’re going to say next about blacks or Muslims or gays or whomever.” In response, I wrote: “I can’t argue with you, except to state that where blacks are concerned, I believe I have differentiated between the good and the bad on many occasions. On the other hand, when it comes to Islam, I admit I find it difficult to differentiate between those who massacre and those who merely dance in the streets to celebrate massacres.

"However I may feel about sodomy, I don’t believe I have made it a practice to defame homosexuals; I have objected to same-sex marriages because I think it is a farcical and faddish notion, and I have objected to the confrontational assaults the gays have made on those who, like me, favored Prop 8 here in California.
"But as you say, it would be wrong for you to tolerate writing you object to appearing on your website, especially when, as I’ve occasionally discovered on your comments page, some of your readers assume that you write everything posted at your blog even when the articles bear someone else’s byline.
"I appreciate your having posted my articles for as long as you have, particularly now that I find you’ve been troubled by them for some time. Here’s wishing you continued success. Regards, Burt.”
One of my readers, Bob Marcks, brings up a pertinent matter, which I, in turn, will pass along to Barack Obama: If the terrorists imprisoned at Gitmo aren’t examples of real Muslims, as you keep insisting is the case whenever people shouting “Allah Akbar” are killing innocent people (aka infidels), why do you insist on providing them with prayer rugs, Korans and a Muslim diet?
In keeping with the prone position Obama immediately adopts whenever in the presence of anything smelling of Islam, Josh Earnest has indicated that in the light of the terrorist raid on Charlie Hebdo, the President would be taking matters into his own hands when it comes to future anti-jihadist articles.
On January 12th, Press Secretary Earnest reported that Barack Obama “will not be shy about expressing a view or taking the steps necessary to try to advocate for the safety and security of our men and women in uniform whenever journalists’ work may provoke jihadist attacks.”
Say good-bye to the last vestiges of sanity, courage and the sanctity of the First Amendment. It makes you wonder what other freedoms Obama has in his gun sight. One keeps hearing that Obama is trying to do things for the sake of his legacy, whether it’s preserving the Affordable Care Act, re-writing immigration laws or shoring up the communist regime in Cuba. It only goes to show that no matter how upstanding the word “legacy” sounds, we should never forget that Hitler, Stalin, Pol Pot and Mao, also left legacies.
During his State of the Union address, Obama praised several companies in his attempt to paint a rosy picture of our economy. Nearly every company he touted has been a major contributor to his campaigns, but that’s to be expected of the most partisan president since FDR. The embarrassing surprise is that within 24 hours of the speech, one of the outfits he singled out, eBay, announced it was cutting 2,400 jobs.
Equally telling was that Wall Street welcomed the lost jobs, causing eBay’s stock to jump four percent overnight. This highlights my objection to the Stock Market being used as a gauge when it comes to evaluating the economy, and helps explain why, throughout the slowest economic recovery in U.S. history, the Market has been so bullish. In a capitalist society, it serves a useful purpose, but in some ways, The Market is like a huge vulture that feeds off the carcasses of unemployed Americans.
My wife has been worrying for years over America’s disappearing steel industry. I finally looked into it, and found that things are even worse than she had imagined. But, for once, it’s not all Obama’s fault. In 1900, the U.S. produced 37% of the world’s steel. Now, we turn out a tiny fraction.
In 2013, China produced 1,320 million metric tons of iron ore, the main ingredient in the production of steel; Australia mined 530; Brazil, 398, India, 240; Russia, 102; Ukraine, 80; South Africa, 52; the U.S.40. In other words, China mined nearly as much as the next seven nations put together. Things have only gotten worse since then.
It’s not as if we’re not still using steel and it’s not as if we suddenly ran out of iron ore. We are simply trusting and paying other countries to provide what we need, and inasmuch as some of those big steel producers do not have our best interests at heart, that is a very dangerous position in which to find ourselves. If shameless enough, one might even say we could someday find ourselves up the river without an ore.
According to Ron Kessler, fulltime chronicler of the Secret Service, Joe Biden is conducting his own personal – very personal – war on women. It seems the V.P. insists on swimming in the nude both at home in Maryland and at his official Washington residence, choosing to ignore the embarrassment he’s causing the female members of his Secret Service detail.
It’s just a reminder of how prescient Ronald Reagan was in 1985 when he observed that the two things in Washington that were terminally unbalanced were the budget and the liberals.
