Pelosi’s Armageddon
Since the Trump tax cuts became law, hardly a day has gone by without companies announcing pay raises and bonuses for their workers.
As congressional Republicans prepared to pass the first major tax reform plan in 30 years, House Democrat Leader Nancy Pelosi warned, “This is Armageddon… It is very important for the American people to know how adversely they will be personally affected by all of this."
Really, Ms. Pelosi? Since the Trump tax cuts became law, hardly a day has gone by without companies announcing pay raises and bonuses for their workers.
Yesterday, the nation’s largest private employer, Walmart, announced that it was raising hourly wages and providing bonuses of up to $1,000. The company also announced that it will be expanding its leave policies and "adding an adoption benefit.” Delta increased its earnings estimates by 20% thanks to the tax reform law.
According to one analysis, more than one million American workers are receiving pay raises and bonuses because of President Trump’s tax cuts. That helps to explain why a record 66% of Americans rated the economy as “excellent” or “good” in a recent poll. In addition, 73% rated their personal financial situation as “excellent” or “good.”
Clearly, the American people do not share Pelosi’s pessimistic view of the economy. Nor do they feel they have been adversely affected by the tax cuts.
Conservatives have always argued that a rising tide lifts all boats. The Left has derisively responded that “trickle-down economics doesn’t work.” Well, it certainly doesn’t work when you transfer jobs overseas.
But when you have a president who is fighting to create jobs here at home, who is cutting regulations and lowering taxes, it does work. Corporations are sending the benefits of Trump’s tax reform plan down to their workers, and that’s how it should work.
I’m not going to mock Nancy Pelosi for sounding like Chicken Little because Armageddon is in the eye of the beholder. When you believe that all money belongs to the government, that capitalism and businesses are bad and that tax cuts are evil, then all this good news must indeed look like the end of the world.
Enemies Within
Investigative reporter Sara Carter told Sean Hannity that three credible sources in the Department of Justice confirmed to her that the FBI did indeed use the discredited Trump/Russia dossier to obtain secret warrants from a special intelligence court to spy on the Trump campaign.
Hillary Clinton’s campaign paid a law firm that in turn contracted with Fusion GPS to conduct opposition research on Donald Trump. Fusion hired an ex-British spy who used Russian sources to compile a work of fiction filled with salacious lies.
To put it another way, Hillary’s campaign indirectly colluded with the Russians to first defeat Trump and then to destroy his presidency before it could even get started.
What makes this so serious is that they were aided and abetted by left-wing ideologues at the highest levels of America’s law enforcement and national security agencies.
We should expect our enemies to try to upset our democratic form of government. That is something we can manage because Russia has been trying to upset democracies for a century.
What we cannot tolerate are elements within the security apparatus of the United States putting their thumbs on the scale because of their ideology. That is a threat that goes straight to the core of whether we can maintain a constitutional republic and a government of the people, by the people and for the people.
Sessions Targets Hezbollah
Last month, the left-wing news outlet Politico broke a big story about another Obama scandal. The headline said it all: “The Secret Backstory Of How Obama Let Hezbollah Off The Hook."
The report explained how the Obama White House, in order to appease Iran’s radical rulers, shut down Project Cassandra, a multinational effort to breakup Hezbollah’s drug-running operations. Derek Maltz, the official who oversaw Project Cassandra, told members of Congress Wednesday, "We lost a golden opportunity to crush Hezbollah.”
Let’s be clear about that: Hezbollah is a radical Islamic terrorist group directly funded by Iran. Prior to 9/11, Hezbollah was responsible for the deaths of more American citizens than any other terrorist group.
Hezbollah carried out the 1983 Marine barracks bombing in Beirut, Lebanon. More than 200 Marines died in that attack. Hezbollah carried out the Khobar Towers attack that killed 19 U.S. military personnel, and it is also responsible for the deaths of U.S. troops in Iraq.
Hezbollah is the ayatollah’s main proxy in his efforts to destroy Israel. It has murdered Jews all over the world and even waged war against Israel.
It is beyond outrageous (some might say “insane”) that Obama “let Hezbollah off the hook.” Politico’s words — not mine.
I am pleased to report that Attorney General Jeff Sessions has ordered a review of what happened with Project Cassandra.
In addition, the Trump Justice Department is serious about bringing Hezbollah to justice. A new task force — the Hezbollah Financing and Narcoterrorism Team — was announced yesterday to crack down on Hezbollah’s drug-trafficking and money-laundering operations.
Border Security First
President Trump went to considerable lengths to address concerns about his approach to immigration reform.
Asked if he would sign a DACA amnesty that did not include funding for a border wall, Trump answered, “No. No. No… Security is number one and so the answer is — [we] have to have the wall.”
Vice President Mike Pence reiterated the point during an interview with Fox News, saying, “There’s no deal on DACA without a wall.”
In addition, the White House offered its support for legislation introduced by House Judiciary Committee Chairman Bob Goodlatte (R-VA) that would, among other things, fund the border wall, mandate the use of E-Verify, as well as end chain migration and the diversity visa lottery.
As Breitbart put it, the Goodlatte legislation “would implement the most important 35 elements of Trump's 70-point October immigration plan.”
