NYPD Officers Turn Backs on De Blasio
“There is blood on many hands tonight,” said police union president Pat Lynch, and blame lies on “those that incited violence on the streets under the guise of protest, that tried to tear down what New York police officers did every day. That blood on the hands starts on the steps of City Hall, in the office of the mayor.” Saturday afternoon, when New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio and his entourage made their obligatory visit to Woodhull Hospital, where the bodies of Officers Wenjian Liu and Rafael Ramos were taken, they passed down a hallway filled with NYPD officers, all of whom silently turned their backs to de Blasio in protest. In response to that protest, de Blasio had the gall to say, “It’s unfortunate that in a time of great tragedy, some would resort to irresponsible, overheated rhetoric that angers and divides people.” His rhetoric has been irresponsible and overheated, and it has served to anger and divide. He should look in the mirror.
