Obama Didn’t Go to France Because He Was Watching Football
World leaders gathered in Paris over the weekend for a rally showing solidarity and advocating free speech in the wake of last weeks jihadi attacks. Barack Obama did bother going, and neither did any other administration representative outside perhaps the ambassador to France. But don’t worry, Obama said Friday. “France is our oldest ally. I want the people of France to know that the United States stands with you today, stands with you tomorrow.” Just not literally standing with them. Obama’s schedule wasn’t exactly booked, either, unless you count watching the NFL playoffs, which he was reportedly doing. Or maybe Obama didn’t go because, as National Review’s Jim Geraghty quipped, “He thought it was ‘leaders only.’”
