Gowdy on McCarthy: ‘You’re Wrong’

“How many times can somebody apologize?”

“Everybody thought Hillary Clinton was unbeatable, right?” House Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy said last week. “But we put together a Benghazi special committee, a select committee. What are her numbers today? Her numbers are dropping. Why? Because she’s untrustable.” As we noted Monday, this was a colossal blunder already being used by Clinton to undermine the committee’s findings on her malfeasance, among many other issues surrounding the Benghazi attack. Indeed, her campaign launched its first ad starring McCarthy. “The Republicans finally admit it,” says the narrator.

Benghazi committee chairman Trey Gowdy (R-SC) isn’t satisfied with McCarthy’s apologies, either. “How many times can somebody apologize? Yes, he’s apologized as many times as a human can apologize. It doesn’t change it. It doesn’t fix it, ” Gowdy said. “Kevin is a friend, which makes the disappointment, frankly, even more bitter.” Gowdy also didn’t explain away McCarthy’s statement as something that should be interpreted differently. “My first reaction is, ‘Kevin, you’re wrong,’” Gowdy said. He concluded that “all I can do is ask people to focus on actions and not words.”
