I heard with great sadness the news of the death of your husband. He will be remembered here as a good friend of Britain and, I am sure, is held in special affection by the American people. I send to you and to the American people my sympathy and condolences.

He will be greatly missed by his many friends and admirers on this side of the Atlantic.

Your dedication and commitment were remarkable and I know it [would] have been a very profound comfort to President Reagan.
