Our Mission and Objective

In 1996, Mark Alexander launched the online journal, The Federalist, now published as The Patriot Post. The Patriot is a grassroots news analysis and opinion digest —now the oldest political publication on the Web.

From our inception, our mission has been, and remains, to sustain the endowment of American Liberty in this generation and extend it to the next by first, advocating for individual rights and responsibilities; second, supporting the restoration of constitutional limits on government and the judiciary; and third, promoting free enterprise, national defense and traditional American values, as outlined in our Statement of Principles.

Our mission and objectives rest on the foundation of this essential affirmation: "We hold these Truths to be self-evident, that all Men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Happiness..." We believe that all people are created with equal value and dignity, and that the Judeo-Christian faith is both the foundation upon which this affirmation rests and its eternal guardian.

Today, The Patriot Post serves more than a million grassroots activists and grasstop leaders. As a primary touchstone for our fellow Patriots nationwide, we top the list of best investments you can make in the future of Liberty.

The The Patriot Post's analysis and opinion are not framed as Right or Left, Conservative or Liberal, nor Republican or Democrat. Our mission and advocacy — and that of all genuine Patriots who embody the legacy and spirit of our 1776 Founders — is framed by our commitment to Liberty over tyranny. Above all we are devoted to the Gospel framework for Liberty, irrevocably endowed by our Creator.

The hard reality is that, for all time, Liberty has been and will continue to be threatened by its antithesis, statist tyranny and those who embrace it. The future of Liberty does not rest on one political campaign or cycle. It rests on the courage and fortitude of Patriots who remain steadfast in defense of the Unalienable Rights of Man.

In 1777, amid a string of defeats in our foundational quest for Liberty — as the fall of Philadelphia and the brutal winter at Valley Forge approached — General George Washington wrote his commanders: "We should never despair, our Situation before has been unpromising and has changed for the better, so I trust, it will again. If new difficulties arise, we must only put forth new Exertions and proportion our Efforts to the exigency of the times."

Defending American Liberty and our Republic's Constitutional Rule of Law has never been achieved, nor will it be, without a heavy price. The forces of tyranny — the forces of evil — have always been and will always be relentless. We are bound by our "sacred honor," our obligation "to support and defend" Liberty at all cost, to rise to the "exigency of the times."

Fellow Patriots, stand fast and firm! Hold the line. Remember who YOU are, brothers and sisters — who WE are together — and from what stock you come.

Alexander's inspiration for The Patriot was to counter the erosion of our Republic's political and social institutions under the regime of Bill Clinton and his self-proclaimed "co-president" spouse, Hillary Clinton, by effectively challenging their ability to manipulate public opinion to conform with the Left's oppressive and destructive statist views.

The greatest obstacle to civic knowledge today, and thus the most imminent and perilous domestic threat to American Liberty today, is collusion between the political Left and their Leftmedia propaganda platforms, combined with the "systemic redlining" of First and Second Amendment civil rights by self-appointed arbiters of truth, whose media ratings are used by Big Tech social media platforms to suppress conservative content.

The mainstream and social media promotion of the Left's agenda is more brazen now than at any time in our history. Thus, countering that threat is our most critical objective.

The Patriot Post's message is more critical now than ever, and our influential reach extends wide and deep. The Patriot is a primary Liberty resource for the expanding ranks of millions of grassroots Americans from all walks of life. Though we are a grassroots content and context resource for conservative national office holders, organizations and think tanks, our first objective is to provide the rock-solid resources needed by local and regional "grasstop" leaders across our nation.

It is grassroots Americans who are doing the heavy lifting for Liberty in their communities and states, and supporting The Patriot Post provides direct support to those frontlines. We provide the hardest-hitting analysis on the web, without diluting our pages with sensationalist click-bait and advertising.

Our original name, The Federalist, was inspired by The Federalist Papers, published in 1787 by James Madison, Alexander Hamilton and John Jay to provided a detailed explanation of the meaning of the then-proposed Constitution in support for its ratification. Notably, Madison, Hamilton and Jay chose to publish pseudonymously under the name "Publius" because it was the timeless message of Liberty which they were promoting — not themselves.

Today, too many "journalists" are also self-promoters, having forsaken the high standards of journalistic objectivity and integrity. Their abject bias betrays their ambition, and ambition is the adversary of truth.

Because The Federalist Papers serve as the inspiration for our constitutionally constructionist editorial context, you will note that every edition of The Patriot Post and the content on our website, is authored collectively over the name "Publius," also the name of our publishing company. Likewise, out of humility and our commitment to promote First Principles rather than personalities, some of our authors, including Mark Alexander, publish as our Founders often did, by pseudonym.

The Federalist Papers were, and remain, the premier resource for understanding the Liberty and Rule of Law enumerated in our Declaration of Independence and enshrined in our Republic's Constitution. The Declaration and Constitution are the most significant assertions of the timeless and "unalienable Rights of Man" in the history of mankind.

Alexander launched The Patriot Post with sage advice from conservative protagonists William F. Buckley (National Review, Emeritus) and Ed Feulner (Heritage Foundation, Emeritus), foreseeing a day when the Internet would overtake print and cable media as a primary source of news and policy analysis — the most significant First Amendment advancement since our nation's founding.

He assembled an impressive National Advisory Committee and recruited an editorial team of bright, optimistic grassroots conservatives from across the nation. Together, they craft The Patriot Post's timeless, highly acclaimed analysis, advancing our mission.

Our analytical perspective on the most significant news and policy is now read by millions of Americans on our website, through social media outlets and free by email in two weekday formats.

First and foremost, The Patriot Post is an outstanding advocate of our Republic's constitutional Rule of Law over the rule of men, the irrevocable terminus of the latter being tyranny. Our editors frame current social, political, and policy issues in the constitutional context established by our Founders and supported today by the plurality of Americans, who uphold the most basic tenet of our Republic: "that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness."

Nor will you find any "Fake News" fabrications and editorial tripe which, like click-bait, is driven by pursuit of market share and thus, the advertising revenues on which commercial publications depend.

Because we do not depend on a single penny of ad revenue, we focus solely on providing you content that is actually newsworthy — worthy of your time — rather than constantly churning the ubiquitous topics which now dominate the mainstream media's relentless 24/7 recycled spin.

Our Operations and Funding Sources

The Patriot Post is owned and operated by Publius Press, Inc., under the leadership of PPI President, Mark Caldwell, who also serves as The Patriot Post's publisher. Mr. Caldwell receives no salary compensation in either capacity, other than the reward of advancing our mission and operations.

From inception, our mission and operation budget has been funded solely by the voluntary financial support of our fellow Patriots.

We are not sustained by any political, special interest, or parent organization, and we do not accept advertising to ensure our advocacy and editorial content is not restrained by commercial influence — as is the case with all other mass media and social media platforms. Thus, you will note our website and email editions are free of the offensive advertising which clutters commercial news websites.

But publishing, like freedom, is not free.

Producing the nation's leading grassroots journal of Liberty requires outstanding editorial and technical teams, operations staff, sophisticated hardware, robust custom software, office space and installations, legal, accounting and insurance costs.

Our mission and operation budgets are a small fraction of other influential conservative organizations, primarily because we are located far from the DC Beltway news, policy and opinion organizations, and our dedicated editors and staff are motivated by mission and not deterred by modest wages.

The Patriot Post is one of the most effective (and cost effective) means of countering the Left's efforts to tear down America. We certainly didn't attain that status on our own. When others observed that my mentor, Ronald Reagan, was a "great communicator," he said humbly, "I communicated great things, and they didn't spring full bloom from my brow, they came from the heart of a great nation — from our experience, our wisdom, and our belief in the principles that have guided us for two centuries." Our success is the sole result of our steadfast devotion to and advocacy of "the principles that have guided us for two centuries," and those who have supported us all along the way.

Consistent with our publication's Military Mission of Service, we chose the donor-based model in order to offer our publications free-of-charge to the large ranks of our American military constituents -- the current generation of Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen, Marines, and Coastguardsmen who have carried forward the banner of Liberty since the first shots were fired at Lexington and Concord. We wanted to extend the same free access to others in public service and especially to our student readers across the country.
