Wednesday Executive News Summary

Scott Pelley fired, Florida voters will decide on nixing property taxes, SCOTUS okays Alabama’s redistricting map, “The View” blasts Graham Platner, and more.

Scott Pelley fired
CBS News has fired veteran “60 Minutes” correspondent Scott Pelley after he accused the new leadership, which includes editor-in-chief Bari Weiss and newly installed executive producer Nick Bilton, of “murdering” the show. Pelley’s comments came following a number of firings in CBS’s news division, as Weiss works to reform the slumping network. Pelley further accused leadership of “incompetence and unprofessionalism,” claiming, “The collapse of values at the top has become untenable.” He also claimed that David Ellison, the CEO of Paramount, CBS’s parent company, tarnished CBS’s reputation “to curry a moment of favor with the Trump administration.”

Florida voters will decide on nixing property taxes
In November, Floridians will vote on a constitutional amendment that would effectively eliminate most homeowners’ property taxes. The movement to end taxation on residential property has been gaining steam across a number of Republican-run states, though voters in the Sunshine State will have the opportunity to make Florida the first state to do so. Gov. Ron DeSantis has trumpeted the measure, arguing that property taxes are “something that has been very difficult for a lot of people to afford.” Florida’s property tax revenue has increased from $32 billion in 2019 to $60 billion this year; the state’s population has increased 9% over that same time period. For the amendment to be adopted, it must garner at least 60% approval.

SCOTUS okays Alabama’s redistricting map
Alabama will be allowed to use the redistricting map approved by the Republican-controlled legislature after the U.S. Supreme Court on Tuesday blocked a lower court’s ruling against the map on racial discrimination grounds. The new map likely gives Alabama Republicans a 6-1 advantage in congressional seats. This development is the latest fallout from the High Court’s Louisiana v. Callais decision, which disallows racial consideration in redistricting. The new map leaves Alabama, whose population is 27% black, with a single black-majority district.

“The View” blasts Graham Platner
Conservatives know that “The View,” which once purported to represent a diversity of women’s views, now pretty much represents the view from the Left. So when its hosts take time to blast a Democrat Senate candidate, something must be up. On Monday, Graham Platner came under “The View’s” scrutiny. Sunny Hostin called him “a liar, a racist, [and] an antisemite,” but suggested that winning back control of Congress is more important than principles. Alyssa Griffin and Sara Haines outlined Platner’s numerous scandals, from his Nazi tattoo to more recent inappropriate sexting allegations, agreeing that he was unfit for office. Perhaps they are paving the way for Maine Democrats to use a little-known provision that allows the party to choose a candidate if the winner of the June 9 primary withdraws by June 13.

White House Correspondents’ Dinner rescheduled after assassination attempt
President Donald Trump is made of sterner stuff than many Americans. After leftist lunatic Cole Allen attempted to kill Trump at the White House Correspondents’ Dinner in April, the president urged for the event to be rescheduled. His advice has been taken, and the dinner, which is expected to be a more intimate affair, will take place on July 24. WHCA President Weijia Jiang says the rescheduling “was not automatic” but a choice to emphasize the need for free speech and to not let violence stop the celebration of America’s 250th anniversary. Trump said he will attend the July event and called the announcement “a very good thing.”

Judge rules anti-Trump group can fly “86 47” flag
Left-wing group Accountability Now USA can keep flying an “86 47” flag near the National Mall, says Obama-appointed District Judge Randolph Moss, who issued a two-week restraining order prohibiting the Secret Service from disallowing the flying of the flag. Moss said that “no reasonable observer” could believe that a phrase heavily associated with killing an item was calling for violence against the president. The judge added that the protest was focused on the impeachment of Trump and that 86 is used more often to mean “throw out” than “kill.” This ruling will likely be a blow to the Justice Department’s case against former FBI Director James Comey, who posted the same message online. Does Judge Moss also believe that the shots fired at Secret Service agents last week were meant to “throw out” the agents?

GB News investigated by UK regulators for interviewing Trump
Freedom of speech is increasingly becoming a thing of the past in the United Kingdom. The latest example of Orwellian thought police comes courtesy of the UK’s broadcast media regulatory authority, Ofcom, which has launched an investigation into GB News over its recent interview with President Trump. The reason for the investigation is that the company failed to challenge Trump’s “astonishingly false claims” regarding climate change, which the president called a “hoax.” An Ofcom spokesman explained, “This programme featured an interview by GB News presenter, Bev Turner, with US President Donald Trump. We are investigating whether it breached our rules on due impartiality and material misleadingness.” The UK government has a dubious “alternative perspectives” requirement that it trots out against views that don’t comport with the official narrative.

FBI partnerships with local law enforcement bear fruit
The FBI announced on Tuesday that its yearlong Operation Turf-War, in which the FBI worked in coordination with West Virginia’s Eastern Panhandle Drug and Violent Crimes Task Force, has led to 35 criminals being charged with narcotics and firearms offenses. FBI Director Kash Patel said the arrests were the result of “sophisticated techniques, confidential informants, and precise collaboration.” The Bureau also promoted the launch of Operation Summer Heat 2.0, a renewal of the effort led by then-Deputy Director Dan Bongino last summer that resulted in almost 9,000 arrests nationwide. This year’s operation is expected to be conducted on a larger scale.

TikTok pushing pro-Iranian regime posts
According to Mark Dubowitz of the New York Post, TikTok seems to have played a large role in shaping Americans’ views of the war in Iran, especially among those aged 18-29. While the TikTok algorithm is designed to feed you more of whatever you view, like, and share, researchers at Spring AI have found that since the start of the Iran war, pro-American content has received 19% less exposure than the platform’s baseline. The tech company analyzed over 37,000 video impressions from nearly 9,000 politically charged TikTok posts about the war, collected in the U.S. over a 32-day period. The likelihood that a 7% boost in pro-Iranian regime content would occur by chance is 1 in 6.5 million, based on the data. This comes as no surprise, as the Chinese Communist Party, Tehran’s ally, still controls the TikTok algorithm and can therefore quietly steer public opinion in the direction it wants.
