Brown Vetoes Gun Laws
Golden State gun laws on the docket.
California Democrat Gov. Jerry Brown vetoed a bill that would have greatly expanded the state’s current draconian ban on “assault weapons” to include any rifle with a detachable magazine. This would have outlawed many hunting and sporting rifles, which almost made even an anti-gun nut like Brown sound reasonable: “I don’t believe that this bill’s blanket ban on semi-automatic rifles would reduce criminal activity or enhance public safety enough to warrant this infringement on gun owners’ rights.” Brown vetoed several others anti-gun laws, though he also signed a few, including, to “save the environment,” a ban on lead ammunition. Of course, non-lead ammo is more expensive and often is considered “armor piercing,” which the federal government may prohibit.
