Assad Says Prize ‘Should Be Mine’
Syrian president made remark “jokingly.”
Last week, the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons won the Nobel Peace Prize for … well, what they plan to do, which is catalog and destroy Syria’s chemical weapons. As if that weren’t absurd enough, Bashar al-Assad, whose regime is accused of having used those chemical weapons against opposition fighters and civilians during a civil war that has left 115,000 dead, says the prize “should have been mine.” A Lebanese paper reported that the remark was made “jokingly.” Perhaps, but we shouldn’t expect Assad to be hosting a late-night talk show any time soon.
