Good Deed Gets Suspension
Zero tolerance strikes again.
A Massachusetts high school senior has been demoted as captain of the volleyball team and suspended for five games because she gave a ride to a drunken friend. CBS Boston reports that though she “was cleared by police, who agreed she had not been drinking and was not in possession of alcohol,” she was still found to be “in violation of the district’s zero tolerance policy against alcohol and drug use.” For doing the right thing. Her family filed suit against the school, but it’s increasingly evident that “zero tolerance” means discipline makes “zero sense.”
