A Wounded Ranger Salute
“The single greatest event I have witnessed.”
U.S. Army Ranger Josh Hargis was wounded when 13 IEDs went off during a mission in Afghanistan with the 3rd Ranger Battalion. Several members of the unit were killed. While lying supposedly unconscious in his hospital bed, having endured hours of surgery, the Army presented him with a Purple Heart. When he heard his commanding officer’s voice, Hargis worked to raise his right hand – even fighting the doctor restraining his arm – in order to salute. In a letter to Hargis’ wife, his commander wrote, “[This] picture, which we believe belongs on every news channel and every news paper is attached. I have it hanging above my desk now and will remember it as the single greatest event I have witnessed in my 10 years in the Army.”
Hooah! RANGER! De Oppresso Liber!
