EPA Lowers Ethanol Requirement
The “EPA is giving the oil companies a get of jail free card.”
The 2007 Renewable Fuel Standard isn’t the green panacea proponents imagine. In fact, as the AP noted this week, it’s just the opposite, destroying the environment. Days after the report, the EPA for the first time announced smaller biofuels quotas for 2014 – down to 15.21 billion gallons, which is just under 10% of motor fuel and 14% lower than Congress mandated in 2007. The “EPA is giving the oil companies a get of jail free card,” whined Bob Dinneen, president of the Renewable Fuels Association. That’s grossly misrepresenting the story. The move is a baby step toward the free market, but it’s good progress.
