Real Unemployment: 37.2%
Wall Street adviser puts things in perspective.
Obama officials, per usual, focused on just one aspect of December’s dismal jobs report – the headline unemployment rate, which dropped from 7.0% to 6.7%. That’s good news until you dig a little deeper and consider that 347,000 Americans left the workforce last month, bringing the total number to a record 92 million no longer seeking jobs – a trend that’s worsened during Obama’s entire “recovery,” now entering its sixth year. Wall Street adviser David John Marotta and colleague Megan Russell describe the reality of this staggering figure: “Unemployment in its truest definition, meaning the portion of people who do not have any job, is 37.2 percent. This number obviously includes some people who are not or never plan to seek employment. But it does describe how many people are not able to, do not want to or cannot find a way to work.” Leave it to Obama to twist these abysmal numbers into “good news.”
