NYT Doesn’t Know Guns
Scaring people about firearms.
The New York Times detests guns and the Second Amendment, as its editorial board made clear yet again. Writing of Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel’s latest attempts at draconian gun control, the Times opines, “The city of Chicago, bedeviled by street gang violence, refuses to give in to ever more restrictive court rulings against enactment of sensible gun safety laws.” So it’s the court rulings that are “ever more restrictive”? Chicago already has some of the strictest gun laws in the nation, which do nothing to stem the gang violence plaguing the Windy City – as the editorial even concedes. And then there’s this gem: “In contrast to Chicago’s attempt to ensure a modicum of law and order, Congress is barely reacting to the latest mass shooting spree in California, where a disturbed young man, legally armed with three high-powered weapons and knives, killed six people and himself.” The guns he used were very common – 9mm Sig Sauer and Glock models – and he had only 10-round magazines. The editors clearly have no idea what a “high-powered” weapon is. We’ve also never heard of a “high-powered knife,” which their sentence construction implies he possessed.
