No Idea What to Do

Iraq’s a mess.

This just in: Officials from the State and Defense Departments briefed several senators on Iraq this week, admitting the White House was blindsided by the advances of the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL). Somebody get the NSA on the phone (tap). Worse, they still have no idea how to address the jihadi onslaught, all while ISIL aims to make Iraq a launching pad for future attacks on the U.S. Meanwhile, Barack Obama and Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki reached a Status of Forces Agreement of sorts – the 300 American special operators headed to Iraq to serve in an advisory role will have legal protection equivalent to diplomatic immunity granted to embassy staff. But the whole objective of this administration seems to be discrediting the previous one, not advancing U.S. national security interests.
