‘Suit Is a Stunt’
Obama hits Boehner.
Asked about House Speaker John Boehner’s looming suit for executive overreach, Barack Obama was defiant: “I’m not going to apologize for trying to do something while they’re doing nothing. The suit is a stunt.” He’s somewhat correct about it being a “stunt,” but that’s what politics is. He continued, “What I’ve told Speaker Boehner directly is, ‘If you’re really concerned about me taking too many executive actions, why don’t you try getting something done through Congress? You’re going to squawk if I try to fix some parts of it administratively that are within my authority while you’re not doing anything?’” Translation: You’re not doing what I want you to do, so I’m going to do it myself. The trouble for Obama is the Constitution doesn’t grant him that power in very many cases.
