Al-Qaida Starts Second Government
Other Muslim countries and their religious leaders, like Turkey, do not recognize the so-called caliphate formed by ISIL in Iraq. But that’s not deterring other al-Qaida offshoots from trying to form governments ruled by their rabid interpretation of Islam. Al-Qaida in the Arabian Peninsula announced it is establishing an emirate in a remote area of Yemen. Reuters reports the group distributed pamphlets in the area that said, “AQAP warns male and female Muslims in Wadi Hadramout that they must adhere to the laws of Islamic Sharia after the debauchery that we have seen in the souks.” It continued, “We warn all women that they have to adhere to the Sharia-enforced hijab and (wear gloves) … men must not enter women’s souks unless strictly necessary … Whoever violates this, will have to bear punishment.” Al-Qaida, “decimated” just a few months ago, had enough power to start two governments.
