Cuomo: Bad Gun Law Had Nothing to Do With Remington’s Move
In 2013, New York Democrat Gov. Andrew Cuomo pushed and signed the SAFE Act, a knee-jerk reaction to the murders at Sandy Hook Elementary in December 2012. The bill outlawed standard-capacity magazines and placed restrictions on existing so-called “assault weapons,” including banning their sale. Soon longtime New York gunmaker Remington announced it was moving jobs and production to Alabama. Cuomo, however, insists the law had nothing to do with it. “The layoffs at Remington Arms are a function of Remington moving to the state of Alabama and consolidating operations all across the country,” he said. “I know we tend to think we’re New York – it must be about us. Sometimes it’s not about us.” Actually, this time, it is. Pass bad laws, lose business and jobs.
