ISIL Victim’s Brother Defends Muslim Faith
Over the weekend, ISIL beheaded another hostage, this time a British aid worker by the name of David Haines. Nonetheless, the jihadist organization’s ruthless behavior continues to elicit the defense of Muslim sympathizers, including Haines’ very own brother. Michael Haines, who says he and his family do not belong to any religious sect, cautioned against blaming the ideology for his brother’s death, declaring, “The Muslim faith isn’t to blame for ISIL, nor is it the fault of people of Middle Eastern descent.” After adding that “We open our arms to those who respect and honor their neighbors and their beliefs,” Haines quoted a Koran passage that purportedly calls on followers to “never let hatred of anyone lead you into the sin of deviating from justice.” But other verses explicitly contradict this passage, like Sura 9:5: “Slay the idolators wherever you find them, and take them, and besiege them, and prepare for them each ambush.” If an intoxicated driver took the life of a loved one, would it make sense to condone binge drinking and encourage drunk driving?
