Christian News Anchor With Cancer ‘At Peace’ in Final Days
Not many people handle sobering news with the type of calm demeanor and peaceful spirit one TV anchor just did in announcing an inoperable relapse with cancer. Dave Benton has been employed by CBS affiliate WCIA-3 in Champaign, Illinois, for nearly nine years. The 51-year-old father, who previously overcame a bout of cancer, just learned the vicious illness is back and doctors are unable to perform surgical procedures or radiation this time around. However, Benton is determined to leave a legacy that’s reflective of his deep faith in the Creator. “Doctors have told me that I may have four to six months to live,” he revealed during a recent segment. “As you know, I’m a born-again Christian. I believe that I am in God’s hands. I am at peace and I know that he’s going to take care of the days ahead and that the goal here is to have the best ones possible.” Publicly displaying your faith can be one of the toughest things for any Christian to do, even for a cancer-stricken patient.
