Guess Which Shows Get Democrat Ad Buys
In July, for the first time ever, the Federal Communications Commission posted online reports about political advertising purchases on local TV stations. The Sunlight Foundation created a searchable index of these ad buys, and The Washington Post’s Philip Bump reviewed them for meaning. Among the interesting findings is that Republicans tend to buy ads during daytime talk shows, while Democrats buy them for late-night ones. News programs and sports tend to be popular for both parties. And then Bump finds this gem: “Republicans are far more likely to advertise on ‘Big Bang Theory.’ Democrats are far more likely to advertise on ‘Scandal’ and, yes, ‘Big Brother.’” Hey, if the shoe fits.
