Darren Wilson Turned to His Only Resort: His Gun

Ferguson, Missouri, Police Officer Darren Wilson shot Michael Brown because it was the only way he could have contained Brown, who attacked the officer unprovoked through the window of his Chevy Tahoe. In the enclosed space of the vehicle, the Mace Wilson carried on the left side of his utility belt would have gotten in his contact lenses. And “I usually elect not to carry [a Taser],” Wilson said during his testimony to the grand jury. “It is not the most comfortable thing.” So when a simple request to not walk in the street escalated to an assault on an officer, Wilson turned to his Sig Sauer P229 .40 caliber. “I felt that another one of those punches in my face could knock me out or worse,” Wilson continued. “I mean it was, he’s obviously bigger than I was and stronger and the, I’ve already taken two to the face and I didn’t think I would, the third one could be fatal if he hit me right.” After a struggle, Wilson shot Brown once while in the vehicle.
