State Department Official Arrested for Soliciting Minor
A Fairfax County Police sting resulted in the arrest of Daniel Rosen, a senior State Department official who was charged on one count of Use of a Communications Device to Solicit a Juvenile. Rosen worked as the director of counterterrorism and policy at the State Department and he allegedly solicited sex from a minor online, who was actually a Fairfax County police officer. DHS spokeswoman Jen Psaki said the department is on top of the situation. “For issues related to Department personnel and for privacy reasons, we are not able to confirm the identity of the individual or specific charges,” she said. “His security clearance will be suspended and he will be put on administrative leave while this proceeds to its end through any judicial process.” Ed Morrissey of Hot Air said Rosen’s alleged transgression was a security weakness, as a hostile actor could have blackmailed the man for state secrets. But Rosen may not be the only one at fault in this situation. Why didn’t the police arrange a meeting and confront him, a la To Catch a Predator? If Rosen lived in Washington DC, he would have had to cross a state line to meet with his supposed victim – a federal offense. Instead, it seems like as soon as the Fairfax County Police learned who they were dealing with, they moved. Looks like the federal government’s porn problem is more serious than we first assumed.
