The Science Isn’t Settled on Doctor Visits
ObamaCare has a few provisions that everyone loves, right? Like preventative care — those annual “well visits” your insurance now covers thanks to the law’s mandates. Indeed, NPR reports, “44 million Americans … [take] part in a medical ritual — visiting the doctor for an annual physical exam.” So what’s wrong with that? NPR says, “[T]here’s little evidence that these visits actually do any good for healthy adults.” And it’s driving up insurance premiums. “Each visit usually costs insurers just $150,” NPR notes, “but with so many people getting them, that adds up fast.” To the tune of more than $10 billion a year, as a matter of fact. It’s true that early detection of numerous medical conditions is a benefit, but just remember the science isn’t quite as settled as you might have thought.
