Profiles in Gun Ownership: Man Stops Carjacking in Progress
A Utah man, 31, went to the store to get some food, and then he was going to go target shooting. But when he returned outside, he witnessed a carjacking in progress. The 27-year-old suspect was in the driver’s seat, trying to both jam the car in gear while pushing out the woman, who was trying to recover her purse. The gun owner — whose name has yet to be released — drew his 9mm handgun. When the suspect lunged at him, he fired once, killing the man. Police Captain Ned Jackson told the Gazette Times, “I think you’ll have some people say he (shooter) didn’t have proper training, and some people will say stealing the car shouldn’t be a capital offense. I think you’ll have other people who will say the citizen shouldn’t have turned himself into a judge and jury. But I think he did the right thing by being involved and helping the woman. If it was someone’s mother or sister, would they want this guy to step in and help them?” More…
