The Left often sees problems in the nation’s culture, yet comes up with completely messed up ways of fixing the problems. Case in point: The New York Times published a piece Sunday about a drug company that is hiking the price of a drug from $13.50 a pill to $750. Is it moral? Probably not, but how else will a for-profit drug company fund research for future innovation in pharmaceuticals? Nevertheless, Hillary Clinton said she would crack down on such price increases, proposing that Americans should only pay $250 a month on medication, because “nobody in America should have to choose between buying the medicine they need and paying rent.” Pharmaceutical companies, for all their faults, aren’t charities. Without profit, there won’t be medicine to choose over paying rent. This week, Hillary will release a policy paper proposing a change to the nation’s heath care system. It’s yet another patch for ObamaCare. “I’m not going to let them rip away the progress we’ve made,” Hillary declared. So skyrocketing costs imposed by ObamaCare is “progress”? There are better solutions. As Investor’s Business Daily notes, the cost of medication makes up only 9.3% of money spent by Americans on health care in 2013, and that price has stayed relatively stable over the last two decades. If the government sets prices and drug companies control monopolies, then Americans will not have a competitive health care that drives prices lower.
