Millennials’ Hopes and Dreams
A socialist’s economic policy is exactly what they don’t need.
Thanks Obama. Nearly half (48%) of Millennials, believe the American Dream is dead, according to a study by Generation Opportunity. The factors driving this assessment include skyrocketing college debt so heavy that it’s affecting these citizens’ ability to save for retirement. Unemployment among Millennials is also higher than the rest of the U.S. population. Generation Opportunity, a nonprofit that advocates for lesser government as a solution to the challenges Millennials face, says Millennials have a reason for their discontent: This generation might be less well off than their parents and grandparents and this will be the first time in the history of our nation that such an economic backslide might occur.
Some of these Millennials are putting their hope in candidates like Bernie Sanders, with his “the rich are screwing you” platform. But there is an opportunity to advance Liberty. “As government continues to grow, young Americans are beginning to believe the American dream is dead,” the study said. To reverse this trend, we need to reduce excessive government regulations that stop job creation. We need to simplify the tax code so Millennials can start new businesses without Uncle Sam intervening. We need to repeal ridiculous occupational licensing requirements that keep the least fortunate among us from working and climbing into the middle class.“ The Bible tells us the love of money is the root of all evil, and coveting it in this instance won’t help the up-and-coming generation prosper. Instead, Millennials need Liberty to make their own way, and a socialist’s economic policy built on envy is exactly wrong.
