The Terrorist Threat From Unvetted Airport Workers
Jihadists have changed their tactics.
It appears that jihadists have changed their tactics since the Transportation Security Administration started peddling the appearance that it was stopping every bottle of water, penknife and toy gun from being brought on a flight. While a Department of Homeland Security audit discovered the TSA couldn’t catch 95% of the attempts from a Red Team to defeat security, jihadist groups like the Islamic State are simply getting jobs as airport workers. Recently DHS discovered that only three airports in the country regularly screen its employees before they work around airplanes, reports Investor’s Business Daily. DHS also knows that at least 70 airport workers across the nation have had ties to terrorism since 2015.
The realization of this security hole comes as British media reports one of the suicide bombers at the Brussels airport worked at the location for five years before detonating himself in the attack there last month. Currently, Congress is working on bill that would require airports to better scrutinize their employees. It should work faster to get the bill to Obama’s desk. The Islamic State has claimed it has terrorist cells working in 22 international airports.
