Using Refugees, and Veterans, as Marketing Props

Starbucks’ ploy with illegals and veterans is the same.

Michelle Malkin, in her typically astute and acerbic style, writes, “Militant mayors in Seattle, Denver and New York City re-declared themselves open-borders sanctuaries — or as I call them, outlaw cities. All of California will now consider declaring itself a ‘sanctuary state.’ Radical progressive companies vowed to hire 10,000 refugees (Starbucks), provide free housing to refugees (Airbnb) and subsidize left-wing legal efforts to fight President Trump’s refugee moratorium and enhanced visa-holder vetting (Lyft).”

Think about it: These companies are favoring illegal immigrants over ordinary Americans. Why, it’s as if Starbucks is daring its patriotic consumers to find a different brand of coffee.

These are just a sample of the hysterics behind Trump’s well-intentioned but poorly executed EO implemented to ensure that the backgrounds of people coming to the U.S. from terrorist-plagued regions receive proper security vetting. Now Starbucks is attempting to deflect criticism of its latest marketing ploy by reminding consumers that in 2013, the company also committed to hire 10,000 vets or members of their families.

Of course, their commitment to hire veterans was also a calculated marketing stunt to shape consumer opinion about Starbucks, as was their knee-jerk “refugee” hiring commitment (not to mention the added benefit of cheap labor). In other words, Starbucks doesn’t distinguish between illegal immigrants and American veterans when it comes to its corporate marketing props.

For the record, I learned how to brew my own coffee early in life — and for about a nickel a cup versus Starbucks’ $5 flavored water. And, being from the mountains of Tennessee, I also learned to distill my own whiskey. So between home brewing and distilling, I have a fair amount of savings for more useful expenses, like guns and ammo. Of course, Starbucks tells legal permit holders not to enter their stores with firearms … just plenty of cash.
