Millions of dollars are spent on an investigation of the president without a shred of evidence produced in two years. The presidential press secretary is refused service in a restaurant. Entertainers, writers, musicians, and even public officials threaten their political opponents with violence. Young people riot over political ideas. A politically motivated sociopath attempts to assassinate several members of Congress on a baseball field. People are shadow-banned on social media or fired from their jobs for expressing certain political beliefs. A Supreme Court nominee with a lifelong record of integrity has his reputation destroyed on a rumor.

Sounds like a dystopian novel set far into a dark future, but instead this is modern America.

To a large degree, the behavior of the Left is an extension of the 1960s anti-establishment culture, which sought to dismantle the pillars of Western civilization and punish America for what the movement claimed were the sins of our country’s past, including slavery, racism, and sexism. Today our country has evolved into a society that has never been more equal. But where does this leave those counter-culture leftists of the 60s? Essentially, they have retained their hate for America, but they no longer have a cause.

In 2016 they pinned their hopes on Hillary Clinton, who would gladly stand by as her fellow leftists moved forward with their dismantling of the West. But then came that fateful night in November 2016 when their power was lost and they had to face the reality that they were no longer relevant.

Shelby Steele writes at The Wall Street Journal, “The left is still stalked by obsolescence. There is simply not enough menace to service its demands for power. The voices that speak for the left have never been less convincing. It is hard for people to see the menace that drives millionaire football players to kneel before the flag. And then there is the failure of virtually every program the left has ever espoused — welfare, public housing, school busing, affirmative action, diversity programs, and so on. For the American left today, the indulgence in hate is a death rattle.”

Sensing its own imminent demise, the Left is now willing to destroy any semblance of decency, order, or even law in its effort to scratch and claw its way back into power. Hence the recent effort to destroy the likes of Brett Kavanaugh and his family. You see, the circus on Capitol Hill Thursday was probably in the works within hours of learning that Justice Anthony Kennedy was retiring. It was then that the Left decided it was willing to tear apart of the fabric of our country and our Constitution rather than seat another conservative on the Court.

National Review’s Jonah Goldberg touches upon this when he writes, “We live in an age where any rule, custom, or norm that benefits the people we hate is wrong or irrelevant and any rule, custom, or norm that benefits the people we support is vital to the health of our democracy.”

So that’s how great civilizations collapse.

The Left is so willing to throw it all away to gain power that they’re no longer afraid to show their cards. When New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo recently proclaimed that “America was never that great,” we entered uncharted territory. But what we’re seeing now makes the 1960s look like child’s play. This is real and profound and dangerous. No longer about Democrats versus Republicans or liberal versus conservative, this is about people who have planned to destroy our country from within for decades but now realize that their opportunity is slipping through their fingers.

And when humans are faced with realities they can’t accept, they resort to drastic measures.

Even more disturbing, people become so enraged and hateful that they’re no longer interested in civil discourse. They’ll ban you from social media, college campuses, and restaurants. They want you stopped not only from speaking, but from entering the public square at all. If you dare go outside, they will follow you, shout you down, and threaten your life.

Brace yourselves. As they say, you ain’t seen nothin’ yet. If Brett Kavanaugh is confirmed, if Republicans hold the House and Senate, and if Donald Trump is reelected in 2020, unhinged will take on a whole new meaning and the rage of the Left will become the new norm in American life. Actually, it already has.
