So What — Biden Got COVID

It’s time to admit this isn’t the same virus that started the pandemic, and we have little control over it.

It’s been a(nother) rough week for Joe Biden.

It started with getting raked over the coals by the Leftmedia for fist-bumping the Saudis. Then Democrat mayors started complaining about the influx of illegal aliens into their cities from Biden’s open border. We moved on to be reminded that one year ago, he was boasting about a “roaring” economy and belittling “temporary” inflation. Then while announcing what the Leftmedia dismissed as an insufficient climate power grab, Biden made another gaffe, telling us, “I have cancer.” (Don’t worry, Joe; we all know it’s just the dementia.) Don’t forget the first U.S. case of polio in nearly a decade. Finally, yesterday, Biden tested positive for COVID.

Again, that was all just this week. Oof.

So, we’re reminded of another false assertion he made a year ago in July: “You’re not going to get COVID if you have these vaccinations.” In January, he called it a “pandemic of the unvaccinated.” Well, he’s been double boosted and, like millions of other Americans and likewise double-boosted Anthony Fauci, Biden still got COVID. It’s a remarkable reminder of just how little control old men in Washington have over a virus, and just how foolish Biden was to make promises about how he was going to “shut down the virus” — promises no mortal can keep.

Then again, being Not Trump on the pandemic helped get Biden elected…

Fauci is 81 and Biden is four months shy of turning 80. Both men are fine, experiencing only mild symptoms. Perhaps that’s thanks to the vaccines, which do generally reduce severity even if they fail to stop infection or transmission. (There is some evidence, however, that these vaccines end up suppressing the immune system, but that’s another story.) Or perhaps both old men are okay because this isn’t really COVID anymore; it’s the far less virulent variant of a mutated strain, several degrees removed from the more deadly original.

You could call it the MT.22 variant for all the Midterm ‘22 hype surrounding it.

The media reaction was far different when Donald Trump caught the original virus back in the pre-vaccine days of October 2020. When the White House put out the above picture with Biden probably pretending to work, few media figures cared that he was maskless. Certainly none raced to lecture Biden over his poor pandemic leadership. By contrast, when Trump appeared on a balcony unmasked to say that he too was feeling better and recovering, the media had a field day criticizing his supposed carelessness and ostensibly feckless leadership.

Biden himself sought only to score political points. “Look, anybody who contracts the virus by essentially saying, 'Masks don’t matter, social distancing doesn’t matter’ — I think is responsible for what happens to them,” Biden pontificated regarding Trump’s case of COVID. Will Biden learn any humility now?

The biggest lesson to draw here is that COVID is still around two and a half years after it began, though it’s largely a shadow of its original self. Lockdowns, masking, and vaccine mandates were not the way to go in March 2020, as we and too few others said at the time. Those things are definitely not the right policies now, even if some cities, schools, and other institutions bitterly cling to them.

We certainly don’t wish the president any ill, though he has done an awful lot of ill to the country. Still, we can’t help but remember that time he talked about any disagreement between him and Kamala Harris. He quipped, “I’ll develop some disease and say I have to resign.” Though it may qualify as a dark observation, we guarantee there are a lot of DC Democrats, Harris included, who would be perfectly content to not have Biden make a comeback.

On a totally humorous note about that last point, DC Democrats be like:
