The Democrat-Run FBI

Director Wray is challenged by Senate Republicans to do something about the bureau’s obvious bias.

Whether it’s colluding with Hillary Clinton to damage the presidency of Donald Trump or putting up roadblocks to keep Biden family corruption off the radar, the FBI has lost sight of its mission.

Once respected as an organization dedicated to justice and the law, some fear the bureau is now nothing more than a political arm of the Democrat Party. And at least one member of Congress has had enough.

Republican Senator Chuck Grassley, ranking member of the Senate Judiciary Committee, released a statement revealing that “multiple FBI whistleblowers, including those in senior positions, are raising the alarm about tampering by senior FBI and Justice Department officials in politically sensitive investigations ranging from election and campaign finance probes across multiple election cycles to investigative activity involving derogatory information on Hunter Biden’s financial and foreign business activities.”

Now, Grassley is pressing Attorney General Merrick Garland to appoint a special counsel to further investigate the Bidens.

Grassley’s letter to Garland in part reads, “The information provided to my office involves concerns about the FBI’s receipt and use of derogatory information relating to Hunter Biden, and the FBI’s false portrayal of acquired evidence as disinformation.” Grassley’s concerns include FBI officials making social media posts critical of conservatives and launching partisan investigations into Republicans.

Bill Barr, U.S attorney general under President Donald Trump, agrees with Grassley, also calling for Garland to appoint a special counsel to probe obvious Biden family corruption. Former federal prosecutor Andrew McCarthy suggests that Garland should appoint “a reputable former prosecutor who will have credibility with Republicans as well as Democrats, and who is appropriately skeptical of the institution of special counsel, and therefore won’t exploit the appointment to grandstand or unduly compromise the administration’s capacity to govern.”

Back to the whistleblowers. “If true,” Margot Cleveland writes, “beyond exposing the FBI’s role in running cover for the Biden family, the whistleblowers’ claims prove significant for a [key] reason: By failing to thoroughly vet the evidence in its possession related to Hunter Biden … the intelligence community ignored a momentous national security threat, namely that the Russians potentially possessed a second Hunter Biden laptop.”

This effort deceived good people within the FBI who were merely following orders, but it also involved intentional political hackery. Cleveland adds, “Agents improperly shut down sources, falsely framed evidence as disinformation, and hid the reasoning for that determination from other FBI agents behind restricted areas.”

That’s all background to FBI Director Christopher Wray’s testimony in Senate hearings yesterday. Grassley and others went right after him. “On the one hand, the FBI greenlit a full investigation into Trump based on liberal news articles and information derived from a liberal nonprofit,” Grassley said. “On the other hand, the FBI closed investigative activity and sources that provided verified and verifiable reporting on Hunter Biden.”

When pressed about Hunter Biden’s laptop, Wray said there is an “ongoing investigation that I expect our folks to pursue aggressively.”

Senator Grassley isn’t the only one concerned about the FBI. Texas Senator Ted Cruz questioned Wray and accused the organization of targeting patriotic Americans in a training manual identifying the Betsy Ross and Gadsden flags as representative of violent extremism. (In case you’re wondering, Black Lives Matter and antifa symbols were not included.)

“Director Wray, I am deeply concerned that the FBI and that the Department of Justice have become thoroughly politicized,” Cruz said. “Now, that’s fairly remarkable that the Betsy Ross flag, in the FBI’s indication, is indicative of militia violent extremism because among other people who’ve been publicly alongside the Betsy Ross flag we have President Barack Obama — who was sworn in directly underneath two Betsy Ross flags,” Cruz noted with visual aids showing the Obama inauguration. “It’s not just President Obama,” he added. “We also have president Biden, who was sworn in under Betsy Ross flags.”

“What are y'all doing?” Cruz marveled. “This makes no sense.”

Clearly, something must be done. We need to trust that the FBI and DOJ are fighting to uphold the Rule of Law, whether involving Democrats or Republicans. But right now Americans are rightly losing trust in the FBI.

Texas Senator John Cornyn added an important point: “The rank-and-file FBI agents — all 38,000 of them — I think are honorable people, but there’s been a rot that was created in the agency that I am not sure Director Wray has fully gotten rid of.”

Indeed, we should remember that most individuals working for the bureau and in the Department of Justice are dedicated, professional, and apolitical. But Democrat politicization will make it harder for people to trust future investigations, more challenging for the organization to find informants, and more likely that agents will always be suspect. The goal isn’t to denigrate the FBI but to hold those accountable who are loyal to a political ideology instead of justice and the Rule of Law.
