Pick Up Your Sword and Fight
What are these sounds of weeping and gnashing of teeth I hear? The enemy is a merciless beast. If we would surrender now, our cause will die forever. Pick up your sword and fight.
“It is a common observation here that our cause is the cause of all mankind, and that we are fighting for their liberty in defending our own. We shall all hang together or surely we shall all hang separately.” –Benjamin Franklin
“These are the times that try men’s souls. The summer soldier and the sunshine patriot will, in this crisis, shrink from the service of his country; but he that stands it now, deserves the love and thanks of man and woman.” –Thomas Paine
“What shall we then say to these things? If God be for us, who can be against us?” –Romans 8:31
“So too, at the present time there is a remnant chosen by grace.” –Romans 11.5
On November 20, two weeks after the election, I was having breakfast with three of my best friends and golfing buddies. We share a common ideology. The conversation was about the election loss. The guys were mostly in agreement with the causes that have already been thoroughly examined, such as: new demographics, race, government hand-outs, etc. Finally I asked, “What do you think about my last essay on the election?” One of the guys turned to me and said, “I am not reading your essays right now.” I had to ask why, so I did. He said, “Because I know you; you are probably trying to cheer us up. I am so disappointed I do not want to be cheered up.” I responded with, “No, I do not want to cheer you up. I want to stir you up.”
Cheerful or not, we cannot give up the fight. The enemy is close. He is legion. He is powerful. He has deceived many citizens with the hopes of a utopia that he cannot deliver. Only God can deliver utopia.
Please trust me when I say, I understand how folks feel. The newly crowned King of Obamaland stands before us. The hope and change guy has deceived enough Americans to win a pitiful 50.4% of the popular vote. He has given hope to those who believe 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue is the new address for the Free Store. He has promised to “fundamentally change America.”
Our fight is for liberty. It is for “freedom and justice for all.” It is a political, ideological, economical, educational, and spiritual battle. As in our first days as a nation, America and the ideal of liberty founded here, now stands alone.
November 7, 2012 was the day that the summer soldiers and sunshine patriots began throwing in the towel. Many others, though perhaps presently shaken and wounded, have not surrendered in the ultimate sense. Rather, they are probably just expelling the pain and frustration of the loss. To be certain, the cause for liberty has been assaulted. Patriots are wounded and some cringe in fear.
Whether you view the election as a “temporary setback” or a reason to surrender, my purpose here is indeed to “stir you up.” America needs you. Your family needs you. Your friends and neighbors need you. People in lands far away, who will never know you, need you.
Are you on the side of truth and reason? Do you believe in “liberty and justice for all”? Do you ever get a lump in your throat at the sight of Old Glory and the sounds of the “Star Spangled Banner”? Are you ever overcome with pride, passion and gratitude at the sight of a soldier returning home? Have you ever heard, “Proud to be an American” and wanted to stand, unprompted, and sing along? Do the words, “God Bless America,” still evoke hope and passion in your soul? Did you answer “yes” to any of these? Pick up your sword and fight.
Do you feel the burn of a righteous anger when a political cover-up makes the news? Do you ever weep at the report of a hero’s death? Do the deeds of tyrants and terrorists bring a cry for justice from your heart and mind? Do you believe you are on the side of light and you recognize the darkness of evil? Lady Liberty needs you. Pick up your sword and fight.
In this present day, our battle here at home is for the hearts and minds of those who have been deceived into believing that government is our provider, our hope and salvation. It is not any of those things. We must understand the enemy, which is the deceiver, not the deceived. The deceived may be won by sharing the plain truth, which is: they have been deceived to believe the battle is merely between two political parties or ideologies. The truth is that the essential battle is, and always has been, between good and evil.
When we face the enemy, the deceiver, whether he appears as man or devil, we must not shrink in fear, but remember that in the end, good always conquers evil.
“For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places." –Ephesians 6:12
"Stand firm therefore, having girded your loins with truth, and having put on the breastplate of righteousness, and having shod your feet with the preparation of the gospel of peace; in addition to all, taking up the shield of faith with which you will be able to extinguish all the flaming missiles of the evil one. And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God." –Ephesians 6:14-17
Will we wait until we are starving and have surrendered our honor, or will we do it now? Will we pick up our swords and fight? Corrupt politicians must be defeated. Secular Humanism has become a prominent religion in America. Some have sold their birthright of liberty for Obamaphones. The federal bureaucracy is being grown, at a cost we cannot afford, for the sake of political leverage. The cost of education has soared while the results have plummeted. Christianity is being restricted by our government and institutions at every turn. Secularism and religious pluralism are being protected. If you can see the truth in any of these statements, you are not entirely deceived. Pick up your sword and fight.
The Stars and Stripes still wave. Liberty is not yet lost. No stand for truth and justice is too late. With God’s help, anything is possible. May God bless America and every American who is willing to stand for truth and fight for "freedom and justice for all.”
