A Land of Rules
“I believe there are more instances of the abridgment of the freedom of the people by gradual and silent encroachments of those in power than by violent and sudden usurpations." –James Madison
Federal legislation passed in Washington has become ever more complex and onerous in scope as the United States Congress and Administrations attempt to solve virtually every societal malady imaginable. Rather than tackle one problem with appropriate, targeted legislation Congress attempts to please all of their political benefactors through massive bills of thousands of pages that are oftentimes unenforceable and always costly. What the American public ends up with is in many cases a monster that must be constrained by further legislation.
When Administrations and Congress pass legislation deemed absolutely necessary by them but not bound by Constitutional limits to solve some either imagined problem or even more insidious to correct a flaw in previous legislation, without any regard for the People or their Liberty, then all Americans suffer. When legislation is so broad that a two thousand page bill generates twenty-thousand pages of regulations then the affairs of government are no longer in the hands of the People but in the grasping claws of Bureaucrats who are the real beneficiaries of these massive indecipherable legislative nightmares. The more legislation, the more need of additional bureaucracy. An ever increasing bureaucratic web of federal control threatens our Constitutional Republic, the Peoples Liberty and ultimately the nations prosperity.
It is the People that pay the price through excessive cost of government, loss of individual freedom and eventual total disregard for Constitutional Principles. The heaviest price is that the People no longer live under rule of law, but in a bureaucratic nightmare of a land of rules.
